Contemporary Christian concert experience

I’m planning on going to a concert featuring Chris Tomlin with Rend Collective and Tenth Avenue North. I know it’s fine for Catholics to go to contemporary Christian concerts featuring non-Catholics. (These particular bands are certainly much more wholesome than Blink-182, Bad Religion and a number of other secular artists I’ve seen.) I am curious, are there any Catholics on here who have seen these bands or other Contemporary Christian artists, or can I expect to be the only Catholic there. Also, is there going to be anything awkward like an “altar call?” That once saved always saved without baptism makes me nuts. Either way, I’m seeing the Catholic Matt Maher this summer, and I’m stoked!
 
When I went to CCM concerts years ago I don’t recall any altar calls. Sometimes I went as a regular concert-goer and but I also volunteered for a company that organized CCM concerts so I served as crowd control and helped set up and strike stage. I don’t know if there were Catholics in the audience or working the venue but I never encountered any other Catholics unless it was a Catholic event (most weren’t).

I very much doubt you would be the only Catholic there, esp. among the youth. If I could, I’d go see Chris Tomlin. Enjoy yourself.
 
I doubt there would be an altar call. If there is you would not need to go up.

Years ago, when I was a mere youth, a whole group of us from our parish went to an absolutely awesome concert by Petra – THE Petra!!! It was so awesome!!!

No altar call, but if there had been, we would’ve just held our peace.

Have fun, it should be great. I doubt there’d be any altar call. I went to quite a few CCM concerts as an Evangrlical and if there ever was an altar call it was at small church venues but that was an exception.

I’d still go if I had time. They are great concerts.
 
I’ve been to a number of CCM concerts over the years. Usually, in my experience, there is not an altar call, although in some cases there have been people available after the concert to pray with attendees (I remember Michael W. Smith did this at a concert in Pittsburgh in the mid 90s). There was an altar call, or something like it, at Uprise Festival, a two-day festival I went to in Shippensburg, PA in Sept. 2011. Met a couple of Catholic friends from online at said festival.
 
No altar calls. We have taken whole youth groups to concerts. My wife and I enjoy many of them. You will not be the only Catholic.

The only contemporary Christian bands I have seen in concert are Saviour Machine and Stryper. 🙂 They’re not quite “CCM”, though.

But, yeah, there were no altar calls. With everyone crammed together, that would be logistically pretty difficult, not to mention that there’d probably be people going up just to be closer to the stage. 😛

Even if they did do such a thing, it wouldn’t be obligatory and you could simply opt not to do it. I guess I wouldn’t find it that awkward. I’d just stand around and watch for the few minutes that they do it. 🤷 It’s really just kids saying they want to know Jesus better.

I’m sure there will be other Catholics there. I’m not sure how you’d find them unless they are wearing explicitly Catholic t-shirts. Or, if you are feeling bold, you could wear an explicitly Catholic t-shirt and see who comes up and talks to you. 🙂
 
Sometimes Christian bands have been on my top lists of best concerts I have been to.

Newsboys
Michael W Smith
David Crowder Band
etc.

I have seen some concerts of theirs that I would rank up there with some of the mainstream greats.
