Dear friends,
My name is Moisés Sbardelotto and I am a journalist of Instituto Humanitas Unisinos www.ihu.unisinos.br], of the Jesuit-run Unisinos University www.unisinos.br}, in the south of Brazil.
Our University, with various other theological organizations, is organizing a Continental Theological Congress in 2012, which will be held at our campus, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the convocation of Vatican II and the 40th anniversary of publication of Gustavo Gutiérrez’s book, "A Theology of Liberation".
But the idea is not only to celebrate a memory, but also to propose new perspectives for a progressive theology for our American Continent.

Trying to keep the flame of 70’s liberation theology alive. 😉 😛

The celebration of the 50th anniversary of Vatican II should be an occasion for developing a deeper understanding of the Council, but the “celebration” of a dissenting book by such a dissenting theologian can only cause further confusion and destruction of Christ’s teaching through His Church.

Not so Liberating: The Twilight of Liberation Theology
by Samuel Gregg, December 22, 2009

Extract:
“As time passes, liberation theology is well on its way to being consigned to the long list of Christian heterodoxies, ranging from Arianism to Hans-Küngism. But as Benedict XVI understands, ideas matter – including incoherent and destructive ideas such as liberation theology. Until the Catholic Church addresses the legacy of this defunct ideology – to give liberation theology its proper designation – its ability to speak to the Latin America of the future will be greatly impaired.”
