For those of us cradle Catholics, at one time or another we learned all about Mass and everything that goes into the ceremony of the Mass.
But I must admit that I have forgotten a few things.
I was wondering if it might be appropriate for priests to occasionally use a sermon to address why we do what we do at Mass, from start to finish. Just to reminder us of what a great thing the Mass really is.
God bless one and all today! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

A priest I know does this, it takes about 3 hours to fully explain. He breaks it out over two sessions and it is always well attended. The kids in Rel Ed and Youth Group all attend and it is open to all.

I like this. The Catholic Church is wonderful. Everything has meaning. We Catholics needs to better understand what a wonderful gift the Church is to us all!

What an excellent idea. I have been thinking along similar lines. There is a need to explain the mass (along with many other things) to the faithful.

Formed.Org has good resources about the Mass, if your parish does not offer a membership, maybe you can do a free trial.

My parish priest has a children’s mass once a month wherein he explains the mass, focusing on the liturgy of the Eucharist and teaches proper posture (bowing) after “do this is remembrance of me”, as well as proper responses. Not only is it wonderful to see the children up on the alter watching his actions, but it’s a great reminder for the older folks who have forgotten over time.

Our parish has teaching masses about once a year or so. Over several weeks, different parts of the mass are explained during mass. I know that some will object to this practice, but it really has been very helpful. I wish our priest had filmed them and put them on youtube, they were that good.
