**Conjugal union is physiologically a procreative act. In this act the couple surrender themselves to the other by physiologically uniting with the other through their reproductive organs. This procreative physiological union, which is only possible between a man and a woman, unites them in a common life, which is marriage. Their union becomes an act of love (which requires sacrifice) when their giving of themselves to the other is complete enough that they have their union open to receiving and raising children. **

** When this union occurs outside marriage, those involved are abusing each other’s bodies; because they are uniting their bodies without uniting their lives through marriage. Similarly, w**hen a couple holds back their total giving to one another and to a potential child that might result from their marital act by using contraception, they go against the very purpose of the marital act. Furthermore, contraception means against conception (of a new human being). It is therefore, against human life. Use of contraception therefore makes marital union devoid of love. Furthermore, by divorcing sex from marital love and procreation contraception makes people promiscuous, lustful and selfish. These result in teenage pregnancies, divorce, fornication, incest, and adultery. These in turn result in broken homes, and children with psychological disorders, criminal behavior and immorality.

Amen! My husband & I practiced Holy Courtship. Happily married 27 years! When you keep the marriage bed pure (avoiding all porn movies, books, magazines), you are free to pour all your love, and sexuality into your union with your spouse! Couples who use Natural Family Planning, report the happiest, most fulfilling sex, and love lives! God knows best!

I am a younger Catholic trying to explain this to people my age is like talking about physics in Chinese. There are a huge number of young people that sincerely believe that abstinence means using birth control and that not using birth control is having sex.

I am also a younger catholic and find it difficult to explain this to the others around me as they see it as ‘not normal’. I also think that schools that are not religious based have a part to play as well as I know from personal experience that we are taught to think of contraception as something that is useful in a relationship. This is encouraging even some young Catholics to use contraception and I pray that will not become normality.

As long as the debate remains at the secular level, denying the God factor in a relationship, then the argument for chastity seems overblown when one suggests that those using contraceptives are lacking or devoid of real love. It will ring on deaf ears. The concept should be simpler. If a couple wants the bond of union to be strong, one must seek God to keep those bonds strong. I suspect that spiritual laws work much like natural laws. Things left to themselves without some external force tend toward disintegration, chaos & disorder. To have strong bonds of integration, law & order, one needs God’s action in their lives. For God’s blessing, one must adhere to his prescriptions and reject proscribed actions. The Church through the Magisterium is the true interpreter of what binds or looses our relationships with God and fellow man.

EXACTLY, it’s not normal it’s super natural! Hundreds of women die every year from birth control. Those who use Natural Family Planning, and are faithful Catholics enjoy better health, & happy marital unions, with a less than 2% divorce rate! God made us & understands how we work. That’s why we go to Him & His Church for sex, and relationship advice! It works!
