will a catholic goto hell if they have a tubal ligation and cintinue to have marital relations?
not necessarily but if they understand the Church’s teaching on this matter and the reasons why it is gravely wrong, they will be living their life in a state of mortal sin, and be barred from the sacraments including Eucharist, until they have repented, confessed, expressed contrition, and been absolved in sacramental confession. If they die in full knowledge of the sin and refuse to repent then yes their soul is in danger of eternal damnation. Their guilt might be mitigated if they have never been properly taught about this moral issue, but objectively, yes it is a mortal sin, that is, deadly for the soul. The remedy is contrition and confession. Surgical reversal of the procedure is not required, More info is on AAA if you search because this has been answered there many times. This is the moral teaching for all Catholics, not just those who identify themselves as “traditional”will a catholic goto hell if they have a tubal ligation and cintinue to have marital relations?
The Church established by Christ to teach and sanctify in His name teaches it. [Luke 10:16 ; Matthew 16:19]Where does the Bible teach that every act of sex must be open to life? …
We can never say for sure who is going up or down, that alone is up to God.will a catholic goto hell if they have a tubal ligation and cintinue to have marital relations?
nowhere does the bible discuss the use of contraceptives or birth control in marriage, nor does it say that christians are obliged to produce children.
With all do respect, where does the bible teach that?we, the church (you and everyone believers in the christ ressurected), have never said that a marriage has to produce children. What has been said is that we have to be open to the will of god, open to life
dj,
Your argument is typical in that it regurgitates MANY tired old attacks that have been gone over MANY times by catholics in response.
The long and short of it is that what you’ve posted is nonsense / non-history. Catholic prohibitions against contraception are as old as the church itself. From the earliest, it has been recognized that the “sin of Onan” was that of contraception. Contraception is wrong for precisely the same reason that fornication before marriage is wrong: it does a violence to God’s design for human sexuality and degrades it into MERELY pleasure and recreation. Note that “merely” does not denigrate the value of the pleasure as you assert earlier. The pleasure was given by God to signal the greatness of the gift of sexuality. To deliberately sterilize sex and isolate the pleasure from its fuller function is as obviously disordered as gorging oneself on rich foods and puking it up to prevent the body from absorbing it. God made things go together. We pull them apart at great hazard to ourselves.

● Does not the Bible example in which Jehovah expressed his disapproval of Onan for wasting his semen show that the use of contraceptives is wrong?—U.S.A.
No, for an examination of the record about Onan reveals that he was not put to death for practicing birth control.
After the death of his brother Er, Onan was instructed by his father Judah to perform brother-in-law marriage with Tamar. This was with the express purpose of ‘raising up offspring’ for his dead brother. He would have no right to have relations with her otherwise. Of Onan’s response to Judah’s command, we read: “Onan knew that the offspring would not become his; and it occurred that when he did have relations with his brother’s wife he wasted his semen on the earth so as not to give offspring to his brother. Now what he did was bad in the eyes of Jehovah.” (Gen. 38:8-10) Brother-in-law marriage was later incorporated into the Law covenant at Jehovah’s command.—Deut. 25:5,*6.
By acting contrary to the purpose of brother-in-law marriage, Onan demonstrated disrespect for his father. In disobedience to his father’s command, he selfishly held back from preserving Er’s family line. This was also an expression of hatred for Er, as Onan worked, not for, but against his dead brother’s interests. Onan callously disgraced his brother’s widow. He selfishly laid bare her nakedness but withheld from her the rightful due of motherhood. He also showed that he had no appreciation for “sacred things,” as there was a possibility that the promised Messiah would have come through the offspring he might have fathered by means of Tamar. (Compare Hebrews 12:16.) All these factors reveal that Onan was a wicked man who had no regard for the interests of others when his own interests seemed to be at stake. It is because of the baseness of Onan’s reason for failing to give offspring to his dead brother that Jehovah slew him.
The case of Onan’s being one that involved selfish disregard for the purpose of brother-in-law marriage cannot be used to condemn birth control. It is noteworthy that the Bible nowhere discusses the use of contraceptives or birth control in marriage. Nor does it say that Christians are obliged to produce children. Consequently, with regard to birth control, Christian married couples must allow their Bible-trained conscience to govern.

Sorry if I upset you…but, you are mistaken. What I have said is true. It is a terrible burden on poor families around the world and a very wrong teaching.
The act of intercourse within marriage is a mutual self-giving which, for the Christian, is a reflection of the life-giving love
This.We can never say for sure who is going up or down, that alone is up to God.
What we can say about someone who has had a tubal is this: If, when they got the tubal, all 3 conditions for a mortal sin were in effect, then the tubal was a mortal sin. As with any unrepented mortal sin, if we did with it on our soul we are probably heading for the hot spot because knowing it was a sin, we have chosen to stay apart from God.
The great news is that as with any mortal sin, absolutioin is a short confession away. Note - you do NOT have to have the tubal reversed or even promise to try to get it reversed to obtain absolution. If you want it reversed that is up to you alone.
If the act was not mortal sin (e.g. the person did not know it was a sin to have a tubal) then that is cleared from their soul.
The continuing of martial relations really has no bearing on this as far as I can see.
Hope that helps.

Again, I did not claim the bible stated this, I said it, in agreement with the teaching of the church which comes down from the apostles. If a husband uses contraception, he holds back part of himself. The couple intends pleasure but explicitly blocks the possibility of life resulting from their act of lovemaking. So I stand by my assertion that it is an incomplete image of Christ’s love for his church. It’s as though Jesus decided that the scourging and spitting and mocking were enough; giving up his life was just too much.Claire from said:Using a condom actually and symbolically blocks this total
Don’t you Roman’s 10:2,3 me!
Onan’s motives were base but so were David’s when he ordered Uriah into the front of the battle and Herod’s when he ordered the slaughter of the babies in Bethlehem. But only in the first case was God’s judgment immediate death. I think there is good reason to think that it was the method by which he carried out his desires, not only his motives, that was being punished. This was taken for granted by early church writers also.Thank you for your answer, I still think your Church should leave it up to the couples to decide since it is not mentioned in God’s Word. As for Onan…: “

"(Genesis 38:10) …Now what he did was bad in the eyes of Jehovah; hence he put him also to death"..
Usually in the Bible when the expression "did was bad in the eyes of Jehovah.”–is mentioned it ends with the death of the individual(s) by God’s judgement.
.whatever the case,
Thank you for your answer…time is short, time will tell.
