As Pope JPII said, contraception and abortion are two fruits from the exact same tree.

One deals with the “problem” of new life before conception, the other deals with it after.

Using one of these evils only furthers the cause of the other.
Someone mentioned that he also said that the only way to stop abortions was to change society’s view of permitted sex outside marriage, or something to that effect. I don’t have the exact quote.

So I hear this mantra a lot. People claim if we just give out birth control, the abortion rate will decrease. Well I hear from the pro-life side that this isn’t exactly the case. But could someone please give me some evidence I can use to prove this? Some evidence I already see is artificial birth control has been readily available ever since Roe v. Wade and is heavily promoted, yet the abortion rate has only decreased from 1.5 million/year to 1.2 million ever since then (and this could have more to do with the fact there’s far less abortion clinics in the nation now than there was 20 years ago, and more effective pro-life activities). So if contraception was so effective, one would think they’d be far less abortions. Not to mention there will always be people who use abortion as birth control and who use it for sex-selection, so therefore encouraging them to use contraception wouldn’t work. And, according to Abby Johnson, Planned Parenthood’s main focus is abortion because that’s where the money is, and yet Planned Parenthood is a huge promoter of contraception. So you’d think a place that profits off abortion wouldn’t be providing something that’d prevent it.
Also, didn’t Pope Paul VI predict that if the Pill became widely used, then abortion would become legal?

But anyway, could someone give me even more evidence, as in maybe some actual statistics?
Abortion rates decrease when people stop choosing to get abortions. Not when people start taking the pill, get IUD’s installed, or wear condoms.

That’s a load of nonsense. I’d use another word instead of nonsense but I’d probably get banned.

New Zealand has had readily available contraceptives of all types, very cheaply, for a very long time. Our STD rates are skyrocketing and our unplanned pregnancy adn abortion rates tend to trend upwards than downwards or stablise.

You can go to your GP and get a Rx for 100 condoms for like 5$, you can get the implant, the IUD, the shot, the pill, all for about the same price, minors can get these things without parental knowledge or consent, including the morning after pill. AND they can abortions without parental knowledge or consent. Likewise, women can get abortions for free.

This has been going on since the 70s, its completely assinine and ignorant to claim contraceptives bring down STD and pregnancy rates. They don’t. Our stats are easily available on line.
