How God gives me the desire to be close to Him but doing that my husband repels me?
I don’t know what to do. I need some help.
My husband said that i’m not the same, and he is right, but I love him and I don’t want to fight because of God.
I don’t know exactly what happened, but maybe my story can help a little.
One day I was excitedly telling my husband about something I’d learned and he looked at me and said, “Stop! Please don’t become ‘one of those’ church ladies!”
My heart sank - I realized that what I saw as enthusiasm, my husband experienced as a stumbling block.
We all travel this road at a different pace. Because I love my husband, I had to respect that he didn’t want to be pushed, and he isn’t comfortable talking about his faith. I have to remember that “I” can’t change anyone else … only myself.
So I’ve learned to balance, and I think you can learn it too. There are many ways that you can draw closer to God without being obvious or in-your-face to your husband. Get up a little early and read the Bible in the quiet; that is a wonderful way to draw nearer to God. Cultivate friendships with other women who are also excited about their faith - doesn’t matter if they are Catholic or not; we have many wonderful sisters in Christ in many denominations.
I don’t know if your husband goes to church with you or not (my husband does) but don’t pressure him to “do more.” I’ve attended a Bible study on my own (I invited him, but didn’t pressure) and I spend an hour each week at Eucharistic Adoration. I time that so I go right after work; it’s not any inconvenience to my husband.
Remember to pray for your husband. I think when he realizes you have backed off and aren’t pressuring him, he may relax a little and allow small conversations here & there. We don’t need to preach at our husbands - that comes off like nagging - but by simply being respectful and working on our"selves" I think we follow the advice of St. Francis of Assissi: "“Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words.”
