Oy, look what I’ve started… Okay, let me try to explain. I don’t believe the Bible is the literal Word Of God. Its not like people were carrying around notepads with them, tracking down what everybody says. Mostly they were written years after the events happened. The only books that contain the literal word of God are the Books Of Moses (God told Moses what to write). Find contradictions in those, please. Muslims believe that the whole Qu’ran is the word of Allah. Christians believe that the Bible is written by man, through man’s account-which it is. And the Bible teaches that man is fallible. That is why the Catholic Church does not accept the doctrine of sola scriptura which is the Protestant doctrine of only the Bible contains the key to salvation, and to base teachings on it. We Catholics believe in the Bible, and it’s truths, but we don’t base our Church on it. We base our Church on the teachings of Jesus Christ. Show me a contradiction in Christ’s preachings (they should be in red) and I promise you I will post a thread saying “I am an idiot. I am an idiot. I am an idiot.”
 
That is correct. The Protestant doctrine of “sola scriptura” (Bible only) is a very late development in the history of Christianity, introduced by Martin Luther in the 1500s.

I wish that some Christians do the same with the Quran. They read a verse or two out of context and start pounding on their chest claiming to have found contradictions in the Quran. I already knew the explanation to these verse. I read the verses and asked a Christian on the WhyIslam forum and he explained them to me. However I again was just trying to make a point!

You’re absolutely right. It’s best to go straight to the horse’s mouth. Believe me, we know a thing or two about people taking verses out of context to try and disprove our beliefs! And probably not from the first group of people you may think… 😉
 
2 Samuel 24:13 relates the visit of the prophet Gad to King David after he had finished the census of his kingdom in a spirit of pride. Gad relays God’s message to him in the following terms: “Shall seven years of famine come to you in your land? Or will you flee three months before your foes while they pursue you? Or shall there be three days’ pestilence in your land?” To this David replies in a spirit of humble repentance, “Let us now fall into the hand of the LORD, for His mercies are great, but do not let me fall into the hand of man”.

In 1 Chronicles 21:11-12, Gad comes to David and says to him, “Thus says the LORD, `Take for yourself either three years of famine, or three months to be swept away before your foes,… or else three days of the sword of the LORD, even pestilence in the land.’”. Note that the wording here is significantly different from that of 2 Samuel 24:13 (i.e., “Shall seven years of famine come to you?”). Rather than that simple question in 2 Samuel, we have it given here in 1 Chronicles as an alternative imperative (“Take for yourself either three years of famine…”).

From this we may reasonably conclude that 2 Samuel records the first approach of Gad to David, in which the alternative prospect was seven years; the Chronicles account gives us the second and final approach of Nathan to the king, in which the Lord (doubtless in response to David’s earnest entreaty in private prayer) reduced the severity of that grim alternative to three years rather than an entire span of seven. As it turned out, however, David finally opted for God’s own preference (whether famine or pestilence); and God sent three days of severe pestilence, which carried off the lives of seventy thousand men of Israel.

I hope that our Muslim friend does not have a “New World Translation” of the sacred scriptures. This version, published by the Jehovah’s Witnesses, is their translation/interpretation and is
full of errors and contradictions.

I suggest obtaining a Catholic Bible, which contains a faithful
translation of the scriptures without error, such as the St. Joseph edition, new Jerusalem, etc.

I also suggest our Muslim friend obtain a copy of the Catechism
of the Catholic Church as an adjunct to the bible so as to better
understand what we Christians believe.

Yes I recently learned this. However is this the belief of the majority of Christians? By the way I just want to make it clear that the Quran doesn’t have any contradictions.

This is the belief of the VAST majority of Christians. The Christianity is held by about 1.5 billion people or more, and the Catholic Church comprises 1 billion of those. The Orthodox Christians, who believe 99% the same as the Catholics, and share this particular belief, make up about 200 million IIRC. That means that 1.2 billion of the world’s Christians believe this way. It is only the small sects of Protestants (who tend to be very vocal) who believe otherwise.
 
Hey good work at keeping it civilized here people. I personally couldn’t care less about whatever “contradictions” are in any holy book, since I’m not here to go around disproving things, but I noticed the friendly tone throughout the thread and I’m just saying thanks to our catholic friends for actually answering these things and not going about and just getting mad.

In Exo 20 God delivers the 10cc, then in Exo 34 God writes the same words on the stones again, because Moses had broken them. But this time, the commandments mostly differ from the first set.
