Is it a glutton if you make a pot of coffee for yourself and contribute to a coffee pool (i.e. make enough for a 16 oz mug and take it all during the afternoon)? Is this something that should be brought to confession (as a venial sin) particularly because we’re in Lent and supposed to fast. Gluttony and sloth are two habits I’m trying to break. Does enjoying a thing of rice that has meat it in a sin if you only remember after tasting the meat (scraps) and than shrug it off (knowing that it is wrong) and continue eating the rice despite it having meat scraps from a prior meal (put regular rice in over the meat scraps of the Indian meal we had on Monday).

Are these things sins that you need to be repentant of (i.e. even if you don’t go to confession for them)?

I gave up certain aspects of talking for Lent since that’s something that’s pretty sacrificial for this chatterbox.

By the way, in writing this, I’ve committed the sin of sloth.

Drinking coffee does not break your fast.

It is gluttony if you drink so much coffee that it hurts your body or takes money away from your family.

As for knowingly eating scraps of meat, that does break the abstinence part of Ash Wednesday. The accidental bite did not but when you kept eating, yes you ate meat.

Writing a post is sloth?

Thanks, I’ll be repentant of that second part and go to confession when I can. Thanks

I’m sure through a good examination of conscience, we are bound to find more meaningful possibilities of sin in our lives. God did not give His only begotten son to atone for drinking coffee on fast days, or posting on websites during work hours.

Repent and believe in the Gospel…everything else will take care of itself.

A coffee pool is each person who drinks coffee contributing to the cost of the coffee and the designated person goes and buys it for the whole office. I don’t consider just making a pot for yourself and pouring yourself a mug for yourself a “pool.”

Eating meat that is in rice on a day that you shouldn’t be eating meat should be confessed if you did it intentionally. (I always remove the meat before eating.)
