Please pray for Vincent Lambert, a French man. He was in a motor cycle accident over 10 years ago. He can breath on his own, swallow, smile and follow people’s movements around a room with his eyes. His wife claims he is in a vegetative state, his parents say he is conscious. She wants the hospital to stop feeding him food and water. He cried twice when informed of these decisions. His parents brought the case to the High Court in France but they lost yesterday. They still have another chance however as battle not over but his food and water have been withdrawn from him as of yesterday 😟

Please, please keep him in your prayers and intentions. There is a heat wave in France and it is extremely cruel to withdraw his fluids. Nobody has the right to kill him. Please ask Jesus and Virgin Mary to intercede. Please pray or fast for him. It’s not fair 😩

It’s not fair at all, but unfortunately that’s the sick world we live in.

It’s truly heartbreaking. Let’s all pray for him.
Also, in case people want to know more about Catholic teaching on these sorts of topics, here’s a great resource - The National Catholic Bioethics Center. They publish an end of life guide (not that this poor man should be at the end of his life).

If this man would remain alive and stable if fed and hydrated then they need to keep doing that. Prayers for this family

So sad!

Disgusting and uncomfortable to watch. I don’t know why his wife is so obsessed with ending his life. His parents are happy to care for him. She can go off and live her life without him. He is not a hindrance to her anymore.

His parents are devout Catholics and fighting tooth and nail for him. God bless them and their supernatural strength. Can’t imagine their fears and feelings of powerlessness. I hope they win, devestating for all if they don’t

Maybe she can get a life insurance payout if he dies. I don’t know how it works in France.

It is truly diabolical to disguise something as “in the best interest of Vincent” by starving and dehydrating him which will eventually kill him.

I pray that his parents will prevail and that his wife will reconsider. We are all vulnerable with this misguided “end of life” treatments and legislation.

This is so painful to me. We agonised about stopping nutrition and hydration for my dad, and we were advised to because feeding him was actually contributing to his terminal illness and even then we continued with mouth care (water on a little sponge). To know that your loved one could live for a long time if you keep them fed and watered but someone is stopping them, This is awful. Unfortunately the spouse has say in this case 😦

France has many faithful Muslims but I don’t think many faithful Catholics these days. Same as the UK. Very secular society

I read your earlier thread halogirl and I’m so sorry for your loss. That must have been unimaginatively difficult for you and brother. I’m so sorry.

Eternal rest grant to him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen x

How tragic and how unimaginably difficult for Vincent and his parents. Praying to St Jude for them all.

it is… and it’s for many years we have this case on trials where one court order to stop nutrition and then another to continued…

I’ve asked the moderators to move this thread to the prayer intentions forum. You’ll get more prayers there. God bless you.

Possible but very unlikely. People rarely insure their spouse (apart from bank loans) and as a former psychiatric nurse, Vincent Lambert may have few money available to do it.
Widows can have a rent from state but not before 50 years old, and she is under this age and live aboard now.

This case have more to do with differing views the value of life to very impaired people (the parents are Catholics, so against his deliberate killing versus his wife who value secular autonomy to decide to end your own life). The wife alos said that her husband is no longer here…

And of course, the death of her husband would permit her to get rid of this case and to reconstruct her life.

It is diaboloical you are right.

And if we allowed him to be killed why would we not do the same for all others in the same condition? Why there life would be seen as more valuable?

We should fight as much as possible for his life, but I think we need a miracle to stop the process…

Hello,
While it’s fine to ask for prayers for Vincent Lambert and it is a troubling situation for him and his parents, it seems like you’ve started two Prayer Intentions threads on his case.
Please do not start multiple Prayer Intentions threads.

Also, Prayer Intentions is for praying, only. It is not for substantive discussions, and in fact I believe there’s yet another thread in some part of the forum for discussion of Vincent Lambert.
