I had my marriage convalidated in our Church. It was not a “big” service by any means. My DH brother and family were there as witnesses as well as his Grandma and sister…and the entire 1st Communion prep class!!! 
I can relate to your husband bc I resisted converting. I never stood in my DH practicing faith but I did create a hostile environment bc I did not know nor understand it. I learned later that my DMIL, his g-ma, DSIL were all praying for me to soften my heart towards the Church to make things peaceful for my spouse. I did not know that my comments hurt him so much. Once I really experienced the Catholic faith, it made me want to convert. I know they prayed a novena (not sure which one), daily rosary and used their 1st Friday graces for me. I am terribly honored and blessed that these ladies did this for me.
Spend time in prayer, especially in front of the Blessed Sacrament. I will add you to my rosary as well. May God bless you and keep you.
