My family’s journey is almost over. This summer, my civil husband and I are going to be receiving several sacraments in one ceremony.
I (bride) was baptized Catholic as an infant and never had faith formation. I found Jesus and the Catholic Church through friends in high school and continued to grow my faith over time. I will be receiving First Holy Communion and Confirmation at our Convalidation.
My civil husband (groom) was never baptized. He will be receiving Baptism, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation at our Convalidation.
We did have a moment of weakness while waiting for paperwork from Rome (Privilege of the Faith) and are expecting our 4th child. The first 3 are all baptized Catholic and understand we live separately in the house until our wedding. We civilly married for the sake of my stepchild. My stepchild’s mother (groom’s high school fling) moved, changed number, went “ghost” and refused him contact with their child. His attorney advised we get married or me and the kids move out of his OWNED home (only his name was on the deed). We prayed over the matter and spoke with our priest as we were waiting on Pope Francis for a response. Father advised us to stick to the church process but for the sake of the child if we truly felt the child was in danger and this was the ONLY way to protect the child to marry outside then we can fix the paperwork when the damage is finished. WE strictly married for the child’s sake NOT to bypass church paperwork or anything of the matter. It was our children and 2 random people on the street in a civil marriage.
So we have the baptism of our soon to arrive child to occur at the convalidation as well.
I was curious as we plan to make this a very special affair. ESPECIALLY with both of us coming into full communion with the church and our child being baptized. We are not doing BIG white gown with train but I am doing a nicer than “Sunday best” gown and bouquet. We were told to have at least 1 on each side for the wedding party (our priest is ok with more) we are doing our best friends as MOH and BM and then our children for the rest of the wedding party.
I wanted advice on a few matters…
1-Has anyone had experience with performing all the initiation sacraments during a nuptial mass for a wedding? What can I expect outside what Father shares with us?
2-How would I word invitations? I was thinking of doing a printed invitation simply to save myself time since it is right around the corner AND baby is due AND we homeschool.
Any advice over and and all would be greatly appreciated. Thank and God Bless!!!
