What the atheist may not realize is that while Christian people have done horrible things the Gospel does not condone it.

There were violent actions priscribed by GOD against people in the Old Testament but it was for a specific time, place and people. These people were horrific- GOD had to protect the chosen people from evils so we could have Jesus.

The Quran condones horrible acts against non-muslims for all times! As does the hadith.

Actually in the Quran it is Jesus that is portrayed as the better prophet, but for some reason Muslims don’t see it. I strongly believe that the devil has a hand in Islam.

It is changing their life and they are becoming Christians! I read somewhere that it has been going on for some 10 years.

Also remember that a Muslims can be killed for leaving Islam.

So unless you speak to them one on one you might actually not know if one of them is an underground Christian. You have got to feed scripture to that Christian in “Muslim” disguise! He might not have access to Scripture and be thirsting for it.

If at the end of the day, you don’t feel good about your work environment, then maybe you should stop the religious discussions, or at the very least, take them somewhere private where the atheists are not around.

The temptation to give in can be strong sometimes; especially with so many have beliefs which differ from your own. But temptation itself isn’t insurmountable, as our lord showed us during his 40 days in the desert. He was tempted but didn’t give in and as Catholics we are called to follow his example.
One of my favourite passages from scripture when I feel tempted is from Psalm 42(43):

“Why are you cast down my soul, why groan within me?
Hope in God; I will praise him still, my saviour and my God.”

I love talking about our differences in beliefs regarding the bible and quaran… I often take the quaran from our book shelf and speak about it with them. But I refuse to take out the bible before them and speak of that. That I reserve to myself.

But there is a big problem now. The athiest in my office often listen to our conversations and have begun to but in and say some terrible antichristian things… It’s not the muslims but it is the athiest which have been abusive to me so much that I often leave work very depressed everyday.

My question is simple and asked in a spirit of charity. Why are you wasting your employer’s time by discussing religion (or any other non-work related topic) on work time? Isn’t this a sin?

You gotta be kidding me with these responses. Are you that weak that you cannot even talk about Christ in the bible? Then perhaps you need not be where you are because to me it is a disgrace that you cannot be a “warrior” for Jesus christ. And even getting in these debates and conversations frighten me about you.

Philosophically, atheism is a **** poor substitute for Christianity, or any theistic belief system for that matter. They do not represent a better alternative to your belief system, they are just ganging up on you (as well as committing cultural suicide). Just ignore them.

You may enjoy this book that I’m currently reading; it’s a philosophical look at how theism is more rational than atheism. Take a look at it and it may give you some ammunition to use against them, or at least reassure you that they are talking non-sense.

Here is my problem. As a very astute catholic poster asked you, why are you doing this at work? Are you doing this during unpaid time? And are they also on unpaid time while this is happening?

I have other problems with your allegations that are vauge and some respondents replies of course. But, I suppose it’s best to peel this onion one layer at a time.

Thank you for inspiring me to continue on at CAF. If only to dispell the various Misinformation that goes around here paraded as “truth”.

I happen to find most atheists both very conscientious and very considerate of religious beliefs for the most part (except me, I’m kind of a jerk). You will all keep in mind, I’m sure, that the atheists will come off as more antagonstic then they probably are trying to be. Christians, since I’ve lost my faith, seem condescending to me sometimes. It’s partly imagined, and partly a mutual distrust of one anothers claims. They (whoever you define they as, are always the outgroup)

One good simple counter to this is CS Lewis’ question to those who claimed that Jesus was “just a good and wise man”:

Jesus claimed to be God. In fact he was killed because he refused to recant this statement. So there are only 3 possibilities:

1. He wasn’t God, and he knew he wasn’t God, so he was a **liar **who deceived billions, not a good man.
2. He wasn’t God but he thought he was God, so he was a lunatic, not a wise man.
3. He thought he was God, and he was actually God, so he is our Lord and we must worship Him.

Both atheists and Moslems will then fall back on the claim that Jesus didn’t claim to be God, but that Christians later invented a lie that he claimed to be God and wrote it into the Gospels. The historical evidence just doesn’t support this argument, and logic demolishes it.

This doesn’t sound like casual conversation to me. When one “often” pulls out the qur’an, it is a DEBATE not passing chit-chat. Now answer my question: Is the intentional failure to give a full day’s labor for a full day’s pay, a sin or not?

Don’t know about Indiana but in most civilised countries a full day’s labour legally must include a meal break, usually of about an hour. Plenty of time for a debate with co-workers whilst still giving the employer a full solid day’s labour.

It was getting me so down that I was getting depressed again. But I have to stop being so silly. I must remember what makes me what I am. I must also remember why I follow Christ’ church in the first place.

Oh, I see. As a former business owner, if my employees had that much “free” time, there would not be as many employees. Time is only “free” to the employee. It is very expensive to the boss. I suggest we should be a lot more cautious about labelling others as sinners. As Catholics we are obliged to give our brother the benefit of the doubt. Especially as you don’t even know what type of business the Op is employed in. There are many kinds of business where activity comes in bursts and has to be dealt with quickly so there needs to be enough staff to cope with that, giving them free time in between the bursts of work. If such an employer cut down his staff so that nobody had any free time, he would reduce, not increase, his profit as he would miss out on a lot of business opportunities and/or aggravate his clients/customers so they would go elsewhere. .

Perhaps you’re correct. Maybe there was absolutely nothing that could have been done during ‘free’ time to benefit the employer. No files to straighten or update; no floors to sweep; no phone calls to be made or customers to contact for a courtesy call; no planning ahead for the next day or next busy period. Then, I guess it would be alright to pull out the Qur’an, bibles and checkerboards. Then it would not be a sin. I should have thought this through more completely.
