There is another 7-volume series called “In Conversation with God” by Francis Fernandez. It is like daily devotional and follows the normal readings and cycles. Get a copy if you can. It is very good.

Whenever I hear someone say, “I talked to God,” my first thought is how they reacted. Let’s review some biblical reactions to the divine to show get at what I’m talking about:

• Isaiah (when he saw God’s throne) - Believed he was doomed for being sinful.
• Daniel (when he saw Gabriel) - Fell down in fear.
• Shepherds (when they saw the angel) - Felt afraid.
• Peter, James and John (when they saw Christ transfigured) - Fell down in fear.
• Temple Guards (upon hearing Christ say “I am”) - Fell back in awe.
• Paul (when he saw Jesus) - Was (quite literally) knocked off his horse.
• John - (when he saw the angel) Fell down in fear…twice.

My point is this: when I hear someone say, “I talk to God,” and I listen to how they reacted…if they didn’t react at all, or they reacted like their mom had just phoned them to ask about a few things to buy on the way home…I sincerely doubt they spoke to God.
