I was watching some morning news show today and there’s this woman who converses with the dead.

I know we may ask the dead to pray for us, but we are forbidden from getting information from the dead.

So, do the dead get in trouble with God for giving information to this woman? Is it all a hoax? Matt Louer seemed pretty impressed.

We are forbidden to try to summon the souls of the dead
back onto this plane of existence.
God can, however, send a soul from purgatory to give us a message or plead for prayers, but we are NOT to SEEK such things.

I really believe that when people summon the spirits of the dead, the spirits who show up most of the time are demons impersonating the spirit we tried to summon.
Very dangerous activity there.

This is a seriously bad thing. If you recall from the Old Testament book of 1 Kings (2 Samuel?), King Saul when to Hagar the witch and summoned the spirit of the dead prophet Samuel. Samuel was none to happy about this and neither was the Lord, who through Samuel executed judgment against Saul. The next day, he was wounded in battle and killed by a servant.

Is what this person doing a genuine? Perhaps. It is most certainly possible to “commune with the dead”, or, as another posted correctly pointed out, spirits who claim to be the dead. It is also possible to be unfaithful to your spouse or to kill another person. Those are all grave/mortal sins.

It is a grave sin to go to a medium. Personally, I do not even watch a television program featureing them.

We can certainly have an ongoing relationship with the dead through prayer and the communion of saints…but we are really not supposed to speak a material answer (ie, an apparition, sounds, true words or information) we can abide in love with them…anything else, we should not seek (due to demonic dangers) but God rarely may provide.

Well, we don’t need this malarkey. We have the Communion of the Saints. I suspect when we get to heaven, we’ll find out the saints were a lot closer to us on earth than we ever imagined.

Besides, if you start summoning spirits, you’re going to get some: straight from hell.

Mark:

My mother, grandmother and I don’t know how many generations before them used to do that. When my mother died, we had to clean out her “tools”, and it wasn’t easy. The stuff is demonic, and it has a pull that’s hard to resist. In my mom’s case, being baptized, confirmed and becoming the regular member of a church couldn’t do pull her away from doing this.

The Scriptures were and are right - You don’t want to mess with this. As some here have said, you just don’t know whom you’re talking to when you’re talking to the dead. Sometimes, you’re talking to demons and other demonic spirits. And, if you’re talking to demons, you’re open to demonic oppression and possession (in some instances), because you’re opening yourself up to them, and it’s their territory.

To think this was the “family business” and that I was to take over for my mother.

So, Under NO circumstances should you get involved with this.

Your Brother in Christ, Michael
