In addition to the Quranic verse above, Islam indeed spread through the sword from early Muhammad’ days till the Ottoman empire, however, in early days, for certain parts of India, Indonesia, etc, Islam spread through the merchandisers and not the sword, however, nowadays the spread of Islam in the west (US, Canada, UK, etc) is not through the sword but through taking advantage of the secular faithless culture through lectures, schools, etc., since Islam is in" weak status" no country dare to declare Jihad against those secular countries.

Of course you can’t spread Islam by the sword when you are weak!
