Divorce is not accepted but lets be honest, divorce happens
Of course it does. A couple can be married by a Catholic priest, live many many yrs as a married couple. Bear many Catholic children within their marriage. But then the Church decides later no marriage existed and it’s called an annulment. 😃 I guess it’s only not a divorce if the Church says it isn’t.

Kevin, might I suggest you write a letter to the Catholic bishop from your diocese where you received the sacraments and request that you be released from the Church.
I thought the old formal defection technique mainly just released one from marriage laws. Pope Benedict did away with that last yr.

Anyway note point #7 about how belonging to the Church is not lost by any defection.

But the Bible doesn’t say that.
The Bible says confess our sins to one another. The whose sins you retain shall be retained verse I’m not sure means it is necessary that we only confess our sins to a priest. Sure we can if we want. But Jesus preached forgiveness so I’m not certain a priest should retain anyway after a repentant confession. And I’m pretty certain we can include God in “one another”.

Mary was ordinary in many ways. However, she was a virgin and a virgin for life. Even if she planned to have relations with Joseph why would she? Do you know the story about Moses. What did Moses do after he saw God at the burning bush? He separated himself from his wife…he became celibate. Why is it so hard for you to accept the teaching that Mary remained a virgin for the rest of her life? Because you can’t imagine a man holding his urges. I believe that if the brothers and sisters spoken of in the bible are in fact translated correctly then it was step brothers and sisters. But I really believe it means something different, maybe cousins. But even my own previous faith taught that it really didn’t matter either way. They at least were able to express it in terms of either way.

Below is a post from JohnChrysostom
Would you say that Moses was ordinary? You apparently do not know the customs of Jews during that time as well. It was not uncommon for virgins to make vows of virginity for the rest of their life while taking on a husband. They served that husband in every way except “servicing them”. My what a pornographic mind some people seem to possess. Just for a moment…imagine being told by an angel of God that you are to marry Mary anyway in spite of the fact you were planning on divorcing her. Okay. Now think about this…you are not only told by and angel of God that you are to Marry her but also that she will bear the Son of God…:eek::eek: … tell me…honestly… would you dare have sex with her without specific instruction from God?.. I hope not… pray that God does not kill you for thinking such a thing. Mary is the Mother of our Lord and Savior. She conceived a son by the power of the Holy Spirit. Yet you think sex is inevitable and uncontrollable. Hmmmn. Remind me to watch my children more closely around my Protestant family.
Our discussion is over. When you start saying that just because I believe Mary had relations with her husband is wrong and that I should pray that God don’t kill me for that. Saying My what a pornographic mind some people seem to possess (refurring to me but you don’t have the guts to say that is what you meant} Then saying that I think sex is inevitable and uncontrollabe (when one is married it is inevitable did you and your wife have relations or were your children immaculatly concieved) and then saying to remind you to watch you children more closely around your prostestant family is one of the lowest things anyone can say about their own family. I bet your wife would be proud of that statement. Instead you should remind yourself to watch you children more closely around priests seeing they have a hard time controlling their pornographic earges around young children.I didn’t want to go there but you forced my hand. That is all I will say to you from now on.

Disgusting and reported to mods

Oops… meant that for Keven

The only thing I read in there that I was trying to edit out was the “pray that God doesn’t kill you”. I was making my attempt at hyperbole. That came across over the top. Sorry about that. But I will protect the Mother of my Lord from those that slander her.

As long as you continue to post things like this about my Lord’s mother, you will never stop hearing from me. The fact is that there has been grave sexual sins in our Protestant families. One of them was a deacon. I won’t elaborate on the others. But we’ve had this discusson on a Protestant forum with converts from Protestant faiths. It seems to be a common problem among Protestant men. The pornographic mind statement was not only addressed to you but to those people that think they MUST HAVE HAD SEX just is so over the top. I’ve been in these discussions with so many Protestants and there is no basis for it. it’s offensive by design I believe.

And my wife does feel the same way around certain members of our family. Saying it is low is kind of lacking smarts don’t you think. Some people don’t come from stellar families you know. Just because your life was perfect doesn’t mean the rest of ours was.

Why are you on here anyway if not to learn about the Catholic faith? You are obviously causing trouble, I’ve noticed it on several threads so far. If the moderators won’t call you out I have no quams with getting the boot and then be proud to stand up for the Blessed Mother. Shame on you. Do you always bring your smut to other people’s house?

I am a former Catholic and what I’m going to say is not against the RCC its self. The reason I left is that I disagree with some of the teachings of the church. For instance: I believe that Mary the mother of Jesus had other children that she was not ever virgin. I believe that you don’t need to go to a priest to confess your sins. I believe that you have to make the decision to be baptized and that nobody can make that decision for you. That the Lords supper is only a symbol and not his real body. That the CC is infallible and other things. But as far as the RCC itself I respect it. I respect the Pope and the Bishops and Priests and Nuns and all who will obstain from sex because that is what they believe God wants of them. Now I do expect some replies from this and some might not be good. But like I said I have nothing against the RCC itself, just some of the teachings.
This is not a conversion to the Catholic faith story. This would make one wonder about your ability to understand what you read in general as well as the New Testament specifically. One would also doubt the reasoning ability of someone who can not stay on subject (Does this rant belong here?).

Look don’t you start on me too. It’s not a rant. I was stating some of the reasons I left the CC. Yes I know its not but if you could see and understand what I wrote, I also stated that I have nothing against the RCC and that respect it. I also said that I respect the Pope, the Priests, the Nuns or did you fail to see that part. Now I did say what I thought of the RCC like the OP asked a non-Catholic to do.

Maybe you can make yourself a Bishop someday. Take Care.

We are not “starting on you.” We are defending the faith against your rantings.

But why does everything said on this particular forum, the non-Catholic forum, not in a perfectly straight line with the faith have to be taken as “rantings” of which the faith needs defended from? This is a forum where various beliefs can be discussed. OP did ask what others thought and Kevin simply responded. Then someone, I’m not sure if it was you or not, was the first to feel they had to defend which led us into the Eucharist and other things. Why can’t we simply present various beliefs here without always thinking the faith needs defended?

Why are you being so sarcastic towards me. I said I respect the RCC, the Pope, Priests Nuns but you just want to make sarcastic remarks like “Maybe you can make yourself a Bishop someday.” Very uncalled for IMO. I don’t know how old you are but grow up.

[edited]

revkevin - look, I can see how people can have problems believing some of what you have stated as reasons why you left the Catholic Church.

Please continue to ask questions and be open to the answers. I have had lots of questions too (and I was treated with great dismay by very devout Catholics who couldn’t believe that someone could have questions about these things).
Some things I am still studying/praying about, but I didn’t feel it was worth leaving the Church over. There are some areas that we can struggle in and it doesn’t mean we have to leave the CC though some might choose to do so.

I have found reading lots of books on these subjects to be very helpful. Reading about the lives of the saints and how they overcame many obstacles to remain faithful to God’s word is especially enlightening.

I guess what I am trying to say is “don’t throw the baby out with the bath water.”
Anyway, I am not offended by those who ask lots of questions or wonder where Catholics get some of their teachings. I come in contact with non-Catholics, anti-Catholics, former Catholics…all the time. We have so much in our teachings that can take years to understand.

I know this conversation is getting a little uncharitable. I know when I was the other side of the Tiber, and also the Red Sea :D, I thought Catholics were real bold to claim what they did. Now however, I see the zeal coming from the word of God as it is written,…contend earnestly for the faith once delivered to the saints. (Jude 1:3) I can now see why things get heated, but things do need to calm down a bit. God Bless 👍

Back your fact up
The Church’s understanding of the significance of the phrase :“Outside the Church there is no salvation” is expressed in its Catechism of the Catholic Church, 846-848, 851 as follows:
“Outside the Church there is no salvation” - How are we to understand this affirmation, often repeated by the Church Fathers? Re-formulated positively, it means that all salvation comes from Christ the Head through the Church which is his Body: “Basing itself on Scripture and Tradition, the Council teaches that the Church, a pilgrim now on earth, is necessary for salvation: the one Christ is the mediator and the way of salvation; he is present to us in his body which is the Church. He himself explicitly asserted the necessity of faith and Baptism, and thereby affirmed at the same time the necessity of the Church which men enter through Baptism as through a door. Hence they could not be saved who, knowing that the Catholic Church was founded as necessary by God through Christ, would refuse either to enter it or to remain in it” (Second Vatican Council, Lumen Gentium, 14). This affirmation is not aimed at those who, through no fault of their own, do not know Christ and His Church: “Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of Christ or his Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience — those too may achieve eternal salvation” (Second Vatican Council, Lumen Gentium, 16). You claim to be raised as a Catholic, therefore you KNEW the Truths of the Catholic Church and chose to abandon them. Read the statement in red above. Sorry mate, this applies to you.
