@rev kevin,

The KJV bible says it’s really his blood as well:
I just don’t see where you see that it literally means his body. I see that if you drink his blood and eat his flesh not to mean his literal body and blood but it means that if you believe and accept him you will not hunger or thurst, in a spitirual way. He feeds your soul. If you eat bread and drink water you will surly die but if you feed youself with the belief of Jesus you will never go hungry. But I don’t see it as his literal body and blood.

You are beating a dead horse, revkevin. You will convince no one of your erroneous belief, This has been covered ad infinitum many times before. This thread needs to return to the original topic. Let’s hear some more conversion stories. 🙂

I’m not trying to comvince anyone, its just what I believe just like you believe in you “erroneous beliefs.” If "we’re beating a dead hourse then why do they or you keep responding. I see this horse being beaten both ways.

CMatt25;6543396:
Please note that the citation at the bottom does not say “hosemonkey,” it says “Lumen Gentium.” Argue with the Second Vatican Council. He asked me to back up my assertion. And it does not seem to be “bordering” at all.
Please forgive me for concluding that because “hosemonkey” was @ the top of the post that you were also saying what you posted. Peace.

My mother, who has never stepped foot in a Catholic Church in her entire life, and certainly has never attended a single Catechism class in her entire life, seems to know more about Church teaching than some Catholics; the difference is, her lifestyle isn’t threatened by these teachings (because they don’t apply to her) - so again, I doubt that the ignorance resulting from poor catechesis is actually invincible - I think some of it may even be deliberate - people who do in fact have access to the same newspapers that my mother reads are saying to themselves, “Well, Sister Mary Sunshine never mentioned it back in the second grade, so I won’t believe it.”
If your mother knows so much about the Church why doesn’t it apply to her if she refuses to enter it? This is one of my problems with the Church. Human beings presuming to know who is and who is not going to be saved. I’d rather take the “do not judge” route Christ put us on and say not only does your mother have a chance at salvation but Rev Kevin as well.

👍

That’s the official Catholic position.

In what way don’t you see it? Christ goes on all told maybe 40 or so verses tell the Jews it’s literally his body and blood. He keeps upping the ante, ratcheting things up to make the point, seriously this is my body and blood. “My body is true food indeed, my blood is true drink indeed”… I’ve even gone so far as to give you the context from Deutoronomy, the very scripture which was on the minds of those jews listening to Jesus. And you see the result in verse 6:66, they all leave him save the 12.

With all due respect, you have blinders on.

My mother has a ways to go, but she has the chance of getting there.

I am not one of those people who thinks that everyone I’m related to or everyone I love has an automatic free pass into Heaven; I understand my mother’s situation. My mother’s chance at salvation depends upon her putting into practice the knowledge that she already has.

Someone who knows the truth but is squeezing his eyes shut to avoid seeing it is in an even worse position than my mother, though, because at least my mother, if she lives long enough, will eventually realize in her heart what she already admits in her mind - that the Church is what Jesus gave us to follow. 🙂

Then why are ppl saying Lumen Gentium says otherwise? That a cradle Catholic Baptist knew and thus can not be saved?
I don’t know.

Wounds to unity

817 In fact, "in this one and only Church of God from its very beginnings there arose certain rifts, which the Apostle strongly censures as damnable. But in subsequent centuries much more serious dissensions appeared and large communities became separated from full communion with the Catholic Church - for which, often enough, men of both sides were to blame."269 The ruptures that wound the unity of Christ’s Body - here we must distinguish heresy, apostasy, and schism270 - do not occur without human sin:

Where there are sins, there are also divisions, schisms, heresies, and disputes. Where there is virtue, however, there also are harmony and unity, from which arise the one heart and one soul of all believers.271
818 "However, one cannot charge with the sin of the separation those who at present are born into these communities [that resulted from such separation] and in them are brought up in the faith of Christ, and the Catholic Church accepts them with respect and affection as brothers . . . . All who have been justified by faith in Baptism are incorporated into Christ; they therefore have a right to be called Christians, and with good reason are accepted as brothers in the Lord by the children of the Catholic Church."272

819 "Furthermore, many elements of sanctification and of truth"273 are found outside the visible confines of the Catholic Church: "the written Word of God; the life of grace; faith, hope, and charity, with the other interior gifts of the Holy Spirit, as well as visible elements."274 Christ’s Spirit uses these Churches and ecclesial communities as means of salvation, whose power derives from the fullness of grace and truth that Christ has entrusted to the Catholic Church. All these blessings come from Christ and lead to him,275 and are in themselves calls to "Catholic unity."276

I know that is what you have been taught, I have been taught the same thing but I just don’t see it. Its not he literal body and blood. When you eat the bread and drink the wine you are remembering what Jesus has taught and remembering the sacrifice he make for all of us. This is my body and blood that will be sacrificed for you and for all so that sins may be forgiven do this in rememberance of me. Remember the sacrifice that I have made for you or that I’m about to make for you. This is my body and blood the true sacrifice.

The Church does not say who is saved and who is not saved. They only run the Church and make difficult decisions on the matters of faith and morals and must speak infallibly if it is to be considered truth. That’s poorly worded so don’t try to pick it apart please. I think you know what I mean. The men must be acting from the Holy See of Rome - or another was of say it is from the seat of Peter, which was given to him by Christ.

He was holding up the bread and wine, at the time. This is made clear in the text. 🙂

Beleive it or not Rev, I didn’t just blindly believe what I was taught. In fact for a long time I struggled wtih this very teaching to be perfectly honest, particularly when I was away from the Church. Reading the bible and being open to it however, and illuminated me and the biblical text is quite clear. Jesus’s Apsotles didn’t ditch because Jesus said you have to symbolically eat my body and blood.

And this is why we have the Church, to guide us away from heresy. Scripturally speaking we probably shouldn’t have anything to do with Protestants because they refuse to believe in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. The sacrifice of the mass is a re presentation of the crucifixion of Christ on the cross and because he gave himself for us we partake of the lamb, in the bread which becomes the flesh and the wine which becomes the blood. Jesus says the words himself.

Interesting thought, not correct I’m sure, but interesting. There are many that do not accept this truth about the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. And according to one poster he says he doesn’t consider those in the early Church that didn’t believe in the body and blood of Christ as Christians. It seems disturbing to me to say it, but would this also be required to be considered Christian, i.e., would Protestants that do not believe this not be considered Christian? I’m going to ask my pastor this question and see how he replies. I’m sure he’ll bop me on the head.

Ya he was holding it up at the time but what does that prove. He raised it up to God for blessing and probable so the disciples could have a visual of what was going on. Holding it up don’t mean that it is his real body.

The Church does not say who is saved and who is not saved.
 What about those Lumen Gentium words quoted back there? Sounded like the Church saying who is not saved to me. What am I missing in there that does not say who is not saved? I don’t understand what part of “Do not judge” (another’s salvation) the Church doesn’t get?
