I would like to hear from LDS and Muslims about late-in-life and deathbed repentance/conversions. Years ago, I was told by a Mormon that a man who lives a life filled with mostly evil deeds cannot be allowed to suddenly repent at or near the end of his life and receive salvation. Is this a common response to receive from LDS? I’m sorry, but she was not clear concerning what type of salvation she meant, so I can’t clarify in that way. She was talking with a Protestant and a Catholic, so I suspect she was talking about something similar to our idea of hell, perhaps the LDS concept of outer darkness, but I don’t know. We were talking about the man accepting Christ and repenting. She was clear that the effects upon salvation of a life of too many evil deeds can’t be fixed.
Because it is my understanding that Muslims view good works as important, I am asking them as well, though in their case perhaps the equivalent questions would be about if the man recited the correct statement about God and his prophet with the intention of converting to Islam, after the man had lived a long life and had done many bad deeds.
I don’t mean these questions to be disrespectful, and I apologize if I have phrased them incorrectly.
