Conversion of Russia?

Though the Fatima consecration may have taken place, and the Soviet Union indeed fell (possibly with the BVMs assistance) I still believe Russia REALLY needs prayers and is in need of conversion the Catholic faith.

It has some pretty distressing statistics: rampant prostitution, rampant lung cancer/alcoholism, environmental degradation, crime, one of worlds highest abortion rates, and just sort of a crumbling, rusty, cut throat, ramshackled society that seems in quite a state of malaise:(. If it weren’t a sin for saying so, I might say that Russia was better when it was the 1987 USSR!

Let’s all pray for Holy Russia, that she be restored to her once great spiritual glory( though this time under the Pope:thumbsup:!)

Has anyone else felt this way?
 
Keep in mind that our Holy Mother promised that Russia would be converted, she never said that Russia would be a prosperous Utopia.

As what may one day prove to be a similar example, Constantine brought about the rise of Christendome and yet 4th century Rome was probably still a pretty rough place to live (and Constantine, himself, was a dictator).

The good news is that our Lord is willing to come into the world on the back of a donkey (or in this case, a dysfunctional society).

I agree, though, that we need to continue to pray hard for the conversion of Russia! 🙂

I suppose I should clarify myself.

It seems that so much prevalent in Russia today is so contrary to the spirit of charity and holiness, even compared to the deeply flawed cultures of America and Western Europe!

I think part of it is that human life has been treated so cheaply in Russia in Soviet Times. I believe that is reason that abortion, human trafficking, prostitution are comparably rather high. Though Russian Orthodox Church has resurgence of faithful, it seems most just like the cultural heritage of it.

I don’t think you need to worry about Russia. She was converted when she decided to end the persecution of the Church. The problems though in Russia while it is in dire need of God and His Grace is no different than those we have in the West. The Church in Russia is probably the strongest now than it was ever before and it is probably the most faithful to God than any other Church in the world. Why can I say this? It is because we never hear about the good things that is happening in Russia. The Orthodox Church now coming out of its darkest era has now the most conversions, ordinations and newest congregations than any other in the world. And most of these conversions and ordinations are coming from its young peoples. It takes time for our Lady’s promise for this change in Russia to appear in its fullness. The change our Lady was referring to was the end of the persecution. That has now occurred. Now the rest is up to the Church especially the Orthodox Church to reach to the Russian peoples. When the Communist party became nothing in 1990 the baptisms at some Russian Orthodox Churches rocketed to an almost 25,000 a year. These were incredible numbers! God is indeed helping His Church in Russia to help those also in Russia to be a better witness to the enormous problems now existing within her gates. These problems are worldwide with the West participating much more than Russia into these great problems. But the Church is now very strong in Russia and it is an incredible witness to face these problems that are occurring everywhere. Look to this Church as a great support and a Church you can also lean on.

I never considered the possibility that Russia has already been converted. It does seem possible, though, that the fall of communism marked the start of the conversion and that we just haven’t seen the full fruits of the conversion yet (Pope JPII did, after all, consecrate Russia in the late 1980’s and that was shortly before communism fell).

As for the increasing conversion of young Russians, do you have any personal experience with regards to this? I am trying to get an idea of whether there is a resurgence to the faith among Russia’s youth, but the western media is remarkably poor in reporting on anything that doesn’t conform to it’s agenda of universal sexual perversion. Essentially, the western media is trying to paint the Russian Orthodox church as being a mere pawn of Putin for political purposes.

I don’t think the western media is a good source on anything that pertains to the Church. I let you know of something that has been occurring in Russia especially from the many conversions of its young people. You can look this up yourself under some websites that also contain this information. When World War II began there were only 4 Orthodox Bishops in all of Russia. Since 1917 the government systematically wiped out over 1000 bishops. Many of the clergy, the priests were also wiped out. However this may be the Fatima message remained alive to bring hope to a country whose government was trying to wipe out the Church that was alive within her. When the Germans approached Moscow a delegation went to Stalin to say this "Give us back our Church and we will fight the Germans. And so it was. Millions of men entered the army. And the Germans were driven back not because these men believed in Stalin but because they believed in their country that believed in God. Stalin permitted more Churches to be opened. Now let us go forward into the 1990’s. The Church is now officially free. There is over 1000 Orthodox bishops serving the Church and the country. The number of her priests is overwhelming for any country in the world. Many of her priests are very young. The monasteries and convents are exploding on the scene in great numbers again from the young people who are entering them. We are talking about more than 500 monasteries and convents. The seminaries are full. Indeed the Orthodox Church is coming back to be the spiritual force of the nation.

I have experience much of this at my own Orthodox Church in P.E.I. as it is the only Orthodox Church on this island province and many of our newest members are immigrants from Russia and are Russian Orthodox. They have an enormous faith we can all exemplified and they are all young looking for a home here in Canada. They have brought with them this strong faith which they had in Russia.

All we need now is for the great schism to come to an end and Catholics and Orthodox christians to stand united in defense of our Lord’s divinely established Church. It will only be at that point that our Holy Mother’s immaculate heart will truly prevail!
