Conversion of St Paul

I wonder if other parishes/archdoices’ are ran this way.

I plan and lead the music at the 9am Sunday mass. Today I got an E-mail (originating from a monsignor) that instead of celebrating the 3rd Sunday in ordinary time, we will be celebrating the Conversion of St Paul this Sunday. Readings and psalms were supplied (everything except an alleulia acclamation) Last Sunday I practiced with my group songs which aren’t really fitting to this liturgy…

SOoo, hit me with your best song ideas . I have 3 days notice, but need to get the revised songsheet and music together in less time that that.

By All Your Saints Still Striving (has a verse specifically dedicated to this feast) You can find it in Worship III. It is sung to the tune of All Glory, Laud and Honor

You definitely are not alone. In fact, last August I helped plan a last minute celebration in memorial of Saint Augustine of Hippo. It seems to be the feasts from the proper of saints which get overlooked until the last moment. They should move them to the front of the Sacramentary.

I would add to benedictgal’s fine suggestions “Laudate, Laudate Dominum” (Walker), “All Creatures of Our God and King” (LASST UNS ERFREUEN), “From All That Dwell Below the Skies/Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow” (Bourgeois, OLD HUNDREDTH), and “Sing of the Lord’s Goodness” (Sands), which all correspond to that day’s Responsorial Psalm.

“Alleluia No. 1” (Fishel) as well as “Go Make of All Disciples”(ELLACOMBE) incorporate the Gospel for that day.

Also, the Gospel Acclamation for the feast is:I chose you from the world, to go and bear fruit that will last, says the Lord (John 15:16).

“Alleluia No. 1” (Fishel) as well as “Go Make of All Disciples”(ELLACOMBE) incorporate the Gospel for that day.

Also, the Gospel Acclamation for the feast is:I chose you from the world, to go and bear fruit that will last, says the Lord (John 15:16).

GIA has a responsory volume (spiral bound) with the musical settings for the propers of the liturgical year, including all three Cycles as well as the principle feasts. You might want to check around your neighboring parish to see if they have one that you can borrow. You could also check their website to see if you cann download what you need for a small fee.

Actually, I took the Gospel Acclamation from the proper of saints at the back of my weekday missal (wasn’t in the Sunday missal).

I also notice that the readings for the feast of the Conversion of Saint Paul are included in OCP’s liturgy planner for that day.

Meh, I’d just do the “chant” Alleluia setting and intone the recit recto tono over a I-IV-V progression.

In fact, it’s not numbered, but is listed as a substitute for the second verse. You will find it listed under the date (January 25th). I would definitely stay away from Bob Hurd’s compositions as well as the one suggested by Fr. Manolo.

How did I know you would say exactly that?

I generally don’t think Elaine Rendler’s song suggestions are all that appropriate to whatever the feast is. I have a Scriptural concordance in the back of one of my hymnals and I get much better matches with that than I ever get with her stuff. That’s how I chose those songs I posted here. I’m not even sure how you could stretch “Lift High the Cross” to get it to fit in.

That’s not to say I don’t like Bob Hurd or Ricky Manalo, though Manalo really isn’t among my favorites.
