Conversion Questions

I am beyond “just reading” at this point and need to experience both the Catholic and Orthodox Churches before I make any conversion decisions.

I was raised in a protestant home. After studying church history and doctrine the past 2-3 years, I am convinced that the true church is Apostolic.

What are the best ways that I can become involved in the Catholic church while I am discerning what to do? I’d be grateful for any thoughts and suggestions.
 
Come to Mass 🙂

My children were at the local Parish early learning center, and one day, I went to daily mass. I was Gob smacked!

It was that easy for me.
 
See if your local parish has an RCIA program at a time that you can attend. Even if you do not join, just learning helps.

As Ralphinal said, most parishes have an RCIA programme–Right of Christian Initiation for Adults. Many parishes have informal meetings for those who want to learn more about the Catholic Church, many also have Bible study classes. I would also urge to to enquire about the life of your local church in the community in terms of the activities of local Knights of St. Columba, St. Vincent de Paul and Legion of Mary.

Thanks for responding, Ralphinal.

I’m thinking that attending RCIA would be wonderful, but I’m thinking that it would be a “learning” opportunity as opposed to “experiencing” the Church. Perhaps I’m wrong.

I’ve still got a lot to learn, but I’d like to depart from the study for a while and experience the Church as fully as I can. What would be the best ways to do this, with the understanding that there are many things I can’t do as a non-member?

I’ve thought about daily mass, heather, and I’m a bit intimidated - thinking it would be better to go to a mass with more people (so I wouldn’t feel so alone?) What do you think?

Was that your first mass?
 
Visit both…Pray…God knows where you best need to be and will direct you…

Yes. It was. And what was awesome was… I told the lady next to me it was my first time, and she helped me! Oh, it was such a moment for me. I’ll never forget her!

She showed me the daily missal and how to use it. Then she showed me the liturgical order and the proper responses, and I was able to follow along.

Granted, that was the rough way to go, but I preferred that Mass, looking back. It wasn’t crowded, it was quiet, and I truly felt Him there. I LOVE Sunday Mass wwith the family. And that mass is in the Missal, so it’s easier to follow along. It’s grand!

Just scoot into a pew, and tell them it’s your first time. It’s our chance to welcome you!
