I remember hearing once on The Journey Home one of the converts mentioning an image of Mary (I believe it is in Rome), of which it is rumored that no non-Catholic can look at it without being converted. He spoke about this because he had gone to see it once, almost as a dare, and several years later became Catholic and remembered that image.

Anyway, I was talking about this to a group of friends the other day, and they were interested in more details. I tried to do a Google search for it, but couldn’t find it. Does anyone know the story and which image it is?

I really don’t want to shake your faith, but think about it.

If this image has this effect, surely it would have been taken round the world by missionaries already by now? What misionariy is going to forgo such a visual aid?

It hasn’t been taken, so presumably it’s just a pious legend that has become exaggarated.

I knew I’d get a reply like this, and almost posted a disclaimer in my original post, but let me clarify. I DO NOT want to argue about the efficacy of this image, or whether the legend is “true” or not. I know it is a pious legend of the kind that would almost certainly not hold up if all the facts were known.

I simply want to learn the name and location of the image out of curiosity, both mine and that of some friends. And, as for it being taken around the world, as I recall it was a mosaic or fresco, or something similar, that could not be moved. I could be wrong about that.

My dear friend

There are 1,000’s and 1,000’s of pieces of art in Rome. I have not heard of it myself. It would not be true but i hear you. you just want to know. If you looked at every piece of sacred art there for a few mins it would take years to view it all. I wish you luck finding it. I would pray, search and ask perhaps.

God bless you:thumbsup:🙂

I haven’t heard of this story but I read true story about someone who was wearing a Miraculous Medal and later he converted.
