Converted Catholics, what denomination were you in before your conversion?

Converted Catholic what denomination were you in?

What caused you to convert to Catholic?

I was Lutheran, the reason i left was because my old church approved same-sex marriages.
The reason I converted was beacuse I found the full truth in the history, traditions and sacraments in the Catholic Church.
 
I was Lutheran before I converted to Catholicism. I converted because Catholicism contains the fullness of truth of Christianity.
 
I was raised classical Pentecostal, and as an adult I went thru several Pentecostal / Charismatic churches before winding up as a Southern Baptist. The process of my becoming Catholic started when I got “deep in history”, as Cardinal Newman put it.

I was raised Episcopalian- what one would call “high church”, that taught the Real Presence. I was more of a traditional Catholic growing up that most Catholics are now, to be honest.
Once the Episcopal Church began ordaining women to the priesthood, and practicing homosexuals as well, I knew it was time to flee. The Catholic Church is the fullest icon of the Marriage Feast in Heaven and so I came home.
 
Born Catholic, but my parents left the Church when I was 6 or so, to join the Anti-Vatican II Lefebvreist movement. Floated around among various groups that claimed to be Catholic but really weren’t, including the SSPX, until I was 35.

Finally I converted (re-joined?) Roman Catholic Church when an FSSP priest, by the Grace of God, cut through all the junk in my brain put there by the Lefebvreist crowd and I was instantly and miraculously made to see the crazy situation I was in.

Unfortunately, most of my family is still being brainwashed by the SSPX. Please pray for them.
 
Buddhist. And a mix of history and a woman. That became very Anti-Catholic.
 
As a kid I attended catholic schools but no one in my family was catholic.

My family was functionally agnostic growing up, sporadic church going, usually methodist or baptist.

By the time I was a senior in high school I was a “deist” and then shortly after professed atheism.

God found me again, I did a brief stint in a non-denominational church but protestantism is just too anti-intellectual for me. Their various heresies don’t add up to anything but contradictory nonsense so I decided it was time to enter Christ’s church.
 
Was Orthodox.
My church was weak.
I lived hard and emptylife and in a sinfull way/with sinfull faithless people ,suffered too much and…felt it was time to change and God brought me to Catholic church.
Experienced amazing things like Confession.
Felt like dead before Catholic church.

None. I was raised in a secular home, with a fallen-away Catholic parent and an atheist/agnostic parent. The community I lived in was largely Baptist.

God brought me to the church. He knew that I’d need His help and support and during the darkest times in my life, He called me back to His house. It took almost a decade for me to get the message, but I eventually landed here.
 
Methodist and was baptized Mormon after moving to a foster home and then took a world religions course in college which brought me home. That’s the short version lol
 
Grew up in the Evangelical Free, and later the independent Baptist denominations.

I was searching because I felt that so many things about protestant Christianity just didn’t add up. I still believed wholeheartedly in Christ and in the Bible, but was discouraged by the fact that Christianity today was so fragmented and everyone believed different things, and I wondered if it was ever possible to know the real truth about them.

I might have looked into the Catholic Church sooner if I hadn’t been raised with such a firm prejudice against it that for years I never even considered it. It took someone handing me a little booklet called Scripture Alone? by Joel S. Peters. I had to admit that I couldn’t argue with the logic in it, so I started cautiously looking into and studying the Catholic Church. And the rest is history. 🙂

Born Methodist and attended Methodist churches in my earlier childhood, though later childhood my family did not attend any church.
In my adult life I was non-denominational, attending various non-denominational churches off and on.

Then a few years ago I actually took a hard look at Catholicism and the floodgates opened up regarding Church history and ties to Christ and his apostles, the saints, Eucharist and mass, etc…, and there was no looking back. I started attending Mass and within a year of that was confirmed in the Roman Catholic Church.

Methodist as a child, Assembly of God, Evangelical Free Church. Preached in the last two.

The Holy Spirit drew me to Catholicism, but the truth of the Catholic Church sealed the deal.
 
Being English, I was born into the Church of England. Later I became a Dawkins-esque atheist, I was confirmed into the CC a few days before my 19th Birthday, I am 21 now.
 
Born and raised into a second-wave evangelical style Independent Baptist Church that was very similar to Southern Baptist. Became a “Reformed Baptist” in my 20s to the point that I was a Calvinist’s Calvinist.

Then saw Calvin’s total depravity fall apart when I saw non-Christians practice genuine sacrificial love. After all, what greater love is there? ✝️

Spent my early 30s flirting with atheism. Realized if the truth objectively exists, then it does so regardless how I feel about it.

I drew the conclusion that if the Church is real, then it’s extant and ancient. Only possible choices from there are Catholicism and Orthodoxy; assuming you accept Trinitarianism as a given.

Ultimately went Catholic for several reasons, but I sympathize with Orthodoxy.

I was baptized and confirmed in the Episcopal church and then was absent from church for more than 20 years. Returned to the Episcopal church in my 40’s and it was not the church I remembered. My father had been a non-practicing Catholic and my mother a non-practicing Lutheran before they converted and became non-practicing Episcopalians.
I am emphasizing I did not have a good foundation for leading a commuted Christian life. I was always curious about
Catholicism so I began inquiring into the Catholic church and studying. Unfortunately, the parish I first went to was not very welcoming and were not encouraging me on my journey so it took another 10 years before I converted. I attended a few non-denominational churches and was Anglican for 6 months
before I finally found a parish that fast tracked me to becoming Catholic in eight
weeks! I wanted a unified church with authority and truth and I believe I found that and so much more in the Catholic church. The Real Presence and Adoration are my rewards in joining the Catholic
Church and the many saints and traditions
and Mary.
 
I’m a born and bred Catholic. But because one of my parents was a Protestant (converted to the Catholic Church in her 80s), I also got to experience the way various denominations preach and teach.

My return to the Catholic Church full time occurred while sitting in the Southern Baptist church I was attending. The pastor said, “Let’s bow our heads and pray to God.” I did. And suddenly, I was shown the hearts and minds of everyone in the church. I was appalled that their thoughts were on everything except Jesus.

After the service was over, I walked out of that church and never went back. I asked God which church He wanted me to be a member of. The Catholic Church. His Church. Now I don’t even go to Protestant churches when invited by friends. I have no interest in them. I am Catholic and will be Catholic until the day I die and go home to be with Jesus in His Kingdom.
 
Are you a Latin Catholic or Byzantine Catholic now? Just curious 🙂
