Converting to Catholicism in TLM Parish

I became a Roman Catholic in 1978 after hearing about what the Church was like in the “glory days” (before Vatican II) from my mom’s relatives (she had been Catholic.)

I’m amazed that you managed to skip all the post-reform confusion in your conversion and subsequent spiritual journey. Cases like your are so rare. Hopefully, we will have more and more people taking your route. Like Ture Light and a few converts in my FSSP parish

I can also testify that RCIA is not the standard practice in every Catholic parish. Last weekend I had a meeting with two priests of an EF parish under the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest about learning more about the Catholic faith. We talked for about an hour, and they gave me two books to read, and told me to call when I was finished and we would go from there. The instruction will be one on one, and done through the Catechism of the Council of Trent. I’m very new to the process though, so that’s all I can say so far.

They were part of the SSPX, but left to found when Archbishop Lefebvre ordained four bishops against the Pope’s wishes.

The way I managed to escape it was by joining a Traditional chapel back in the 1970s (back when they were all “unapproved”), and avoiding the novus ordo parishes. I converted via my local “regular” (novus ordo) parish, but avoided much of the changes because the priest was very traditional, the NO mass there had not become THAT screwy yet, and besides, I only attended one or maybe two before realizing I was in the wrong place, and a neighbor fortunately told me of Tridentine Masses being held in a motel ballroom an hour or so away. I left, went to that chapel (they later got their own bldg), and never really looked back.
