Hello all. My boyfriend and his family are Catholic. Neither one of us have been married, and it is important to me to convert to Catholicism and be married in the Catholic Church with mass and everything. I am not sure what I need to do, or who I even need to talk to…where to start. This is something that means a lot to me, and also to him and his family. If someone could give me some advice and point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

Thanks for your time,
Chante

howdy and welcome

first understand that it is not required that you become Catholic yourself in order to marry a Catholic, (if you are even contemplating marriage yet) but when you do become engaged you will attend formation sessions at a Catholic parish to help you prepare for this serious undertaking, and to assure that you are both ready for marriage. also, so that you can understand what he, as a Catholic, is obliged to promise.

However it sounds as if you are sincere in considering the Catholic Church for your own spiritual home regardless, which fills us with joy. You would call your friend’s parish, or the parish closest to you, and ask for an appointment with the pastor to discuss this. He will tell you, when he gets to know you and your situation, what preparation is required and helpful for you. There is usually a class involved where you learn about Catholic belief and practice, and some time either during that class, or on Sunday after Mass, spent with the Gospels and learning to listen to God speaking to us that way. The class depends on your needs, the time depends on your progress and upon the Church year, and it takes as long as it takes. May the Holy Spirit continue to guide you, and welcome home!

How wonderful that you are converting! Congratulations! Contact your boyfriend’s priest and make arrangements to enter RCIA, a class for adults inquiring about the faith.
Start praying every day and attend Mass with your boyfriend (but don’t take Communion until you are a confirmed Catholic).
Wonderful news - keep us posted!😉

Thank you both. I am sincere in my intentions. I have an aunt who is Catholic and decided to convert when she was about to marry her husband and they have been married for around 20 years. I didn’t grow up in the church, nor the Catholic Church, but do have a strong belief in God and Christ. I went to mass with my aunt a lot growing up and when I lived with her. I also went to mass a lot when I lived in Florida. It is something I have been been drawn to, and taking the RCIA classes is something I have wanted to do for a long time, and have tried before, but because of extenuating circumstances was unable to go through the process. I am looking forward to it because I know this is a good time to be doing it.

Thank you for your helpful responses. Please say a couple prayers for me.

God Bless.

the Holy Spirit is at work here, God bless you
ooooh I love my job
