Sorry if this isn’t where this thread belongs, this is my first post.

I’ve grown up in a southern baptist home (my grandpa was an author, missionary, scholar, and professor at a baptist seminary and my dad was a preacher with his Th.D)- I was an atheist from 12-17 years old. I prayed the sinners prayer about a year ago.

2 months ago when searching for a video review I stumbled across Fr. Robert Barron’s YouTube channel. I ended up staying up all night watching all of his videos. Ever since then I’ve been intrigued by Catholicism. I’ve been reading, researching, and comparing Catholic History with that of Calvinism, Lutheranism, etc. I’ve come to find much more logic and truth in Catholicism.

Ever since I started researching I’ve had an empty feeling at my church services. No more emotional reaction during the music… Sort of a loss of interest in the messages (mainly because I don’t agree with a lot of the cliches my pastor talks about). I love my church family and I still have a prayer life/Bible study time that I look forward to at the end of the day.

All of this lead me to go to Mass this past Sunday… It took a lot of procrastination, but I finally stepped out in faith. It was one of the best experiences of my life. All of my expectations were surpassed. That void I felt in my heart was gone, and for the 45 minutes I was there, my worries were gone. I go to college this August. It’s a baptist college, but I plan on being a part of the Catholic Collegiate Ministry and going to Mass each Sunday. I had a talk with my mom about it- she said she’s proud that I’m my own person and that she will support me no matter what Church I attend. I am going to meet and talk to my priest this Sunday after Mass (also my baptist church is honoring this years graduating class and my youth group is having cake and pizza to celebrate my graduation).

I’m very excited about this totally new chapter in my life, prayers would be appreciated. Also is there any advice you’d give me going forward? Thanks and God bless:)

Praise God! You are following the right path I can assure you. I will be praying for you on you’re journey. Keep acting on your faith. Welcome to the true Church of Jesus Christ, God our Savior

I was at the end of my college freshman year when I became Catholic, so I can appreciate your age and situation. God bless you, and please keep us informed.:highprayer:

Prayer Bible Catechism altogether every day.
Here’s a best prayer to start you on your way.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be they name.
They kingdom com, they will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us
And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

My exact experience 3 years ago. Curious about catholicism. Fr Barron YouTube. Go to mass and fall in love with it. Met with RCIA director and started the process.

Keep doing what you are doing. Read and listen to catholic answers. It will help a lot. God Bless!

Welcome. Praying for you. Some good resources include YouCat, The youth catechism, any book by Scott Hahn, Fulton Sheen or Peter Kreeft.
Some day you might want to attend RCIA, an in depth course in the faith at many local parishes. You may attend with no obligations.

This website has a lot of great information about the Faith, too.

Blessed Mother, please intercede for us.
Hold the sorrowful, strengthen the fearful,
mother and love the weary, abused, neglected
or forgotten among us,
give your aid to all needing help or healing,
assist those who are sick, in pain or suffering,
be with those needing peace,
console the lonely or brokenhearted,
comfort the lost or hopeless,
guard the unborn,
pray for those who are dying or who have died,
soften those with hardened hearts,
enlighten those who do not yet see truth,
help us be brave enough to let our hurt and anger go,
show us the way to do the right thing,
protect those who are in danger,
and guide us from every evil.
May all who keep your sacred commemoration
experience the might of your assistance.
Amen :gopray2:

Christ is risen…Truly he is Risen…

If you can get your hands on Dr Scott Hahn’s conversion story, I think it’s called “How a protestant pastor became Catholic” you will greatly benefit from it.

I know a lot of (ex) protestants who have benefitted from this talk. It really resonates with them.

Either way, welcome to the One Holy, Catholic and Apostolic church founded by Our Lord Jesus Christ to whom he promised he would be with until the end of time.

Attend mass, Say the rosary, go to confession and immerse yourself in the countless treasures the church has.

God Bless.

My conversion was from Baptist to Catholic. God Bless You as you travel your journey.
As simple as it sounds, it was the peace I felt when kneeling during Mass that was the catalyst !
I read a lot of St. Augustine and really love his teachings. Praying for you!!!

Welcome! It is always a moment of joy for all of us to read a post like yours! Welcome to CAF as well!

My parents were also VERY supportive. Both are closet Catholics. Your Mom rocks!
Blessings to you and your spiritual journey!👍

You wasn’t a tough nut to crack. 😃

Congratulations on your decision! And be thankful for having such a supportive mother! May you be a good example to the rest of your family that they too may come to see the truth of Catholicism.

Welcome home! 😃 I will also be praying for you. :gopray:

Not much to add in the suggestions part except to say pray every day

Welcome! Praise God! Keep close to the Sacraments of the Church and reading good Catholic material to help you learn more about the faith (which it seems you are doing) Get to know the our Blessed Mother as she is so powerful in helping us come even closer to Jesus. I am a convert and thought I was close to Jesus, but when I got to know the Blessed Mother she lead me into a deeper relationship with her Son:) If there is a group called Focus on your campus go to it. Go to Adoration (if you don’t know what this is ask)… it is so very powerful!
You have my prayers,
In His love,
mlz

P.S. I happen to like for philosophy Peter Kreeft especially. There are tons of excellent material. Check either EWTN or Catholic Answers for resources. Also in most parishes there are AWESOME CD’s to listen to!
