Converting to Christianity

I’m not sure which thread to put this in 🤷

Anyways, I have been seeking God for a while and I have decided to become / convert to Christianity. I don’t believe in the Church, but I believe in God my Father, Redeemer and Comforter because He has shown Himself to me and come to me. I love Jesus because it was He who saved me and loves me. ❤️

Catholicism is confusing - sorting through the devotions and revelations and saints writings and dogmas. I am going to stick to the gospel and just get to know Jesus as He is - rather than what everyone else tells me.

Are there any websites just about catholic / christian faith - rather than apparitions, rosaries, devotions, dogmas. I just want to focus on the gospel at the moment but most sites are protestant

I find the Vatican website, with its online Catechism, to be invaluable. vatican.va/archive/ENG0015/_INDEX.HTM
The Faith is explained clearly and in detail. Revelations/devotions etc are great, but the Church officially focuses on the basics in the Catechism. Try it out! It’s organized so that you can easily find subjects, as well. May the Spirit guide you as you study!

You surely are familiar with some stories in the Bible,

Can you imagine someone coming to King David and saying, “Your Majesty, I want you to be my personal King. I want a personal relationship with you, but I don’t want to have anything to do witn your kingdom.”

Think about it.
 
Based on your other threads, I believe you are proceeding with sincerity and faith. When I converted to Christianity, I had a fairly inflexible position that I would never be part of any Church. Simone Weil was a favorite at that time. One one hand, there is some institutional history not always exemplary, on the other I hadn’t yet worked on personal issues about community. You can’t go faster than the Spirit is leading you. I’m in RCIA now, very happily, but I would once have considered it an impossibility. An independent view was part of my seeking, and part of my current formation.
 
Remember that the Church is the apostolic witness which is Christ’s chosen instrument for transmitting knowledge of Himself to the world. Granted, there are examples of Christ personally appearing to people like Paul, but that is exceptional and it does not sound like you are claiming that (also, note that Paul was directed to seek out the Church).

Yeah, it’s complicated, but so is a lock. And when you find something that opens it, you know you have the right key. Most heresies and especially Islam proposed to simplify religion, and that is when one should be most suspicious.

If you love Jesus, then, why would you reject His best and greatest gift to you, that he wishes you to be a part of, the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church? That doesn’t make sense to me.

I am happy to see that you are growing spiritually and recognzing Jesus as the One who saves you.

On your journey, keep on praying and discerning. One important thing I’d like to suggest you to keep in mind is: we would have never known Jesus if we had not been told by others. For the same reason, you and I come here to share and to learn from others.

When you read the Gospels, if you don’t know yet, you could start learning how the Gospels began? where does it come from?

I would also reccomend the Coming Home Network’s forum
chnetwork.org/forums/ It is full of many making the journey to Christ, and to his Church. Most seem to be able to express what they are going through and searching for in very simple terms. I think that makes a difference, because as Catholics, we are use to and comfortable with, all the different beliefs you mentioned. So it could be a good place to start some seardhing discussions.
 
I am happy for you and believe that you have taken a great stride in your faith. I will pray for you.
 
I believe in Jesus and I am a part of His body (church) - how can you think I’m not. I am His child. At this point in time, because my faith in God’s Word, Jesus, is like a new blossom I am staying clear of the catholic institution because in times past it has harmed my faith more than help it, once bitten twice shy kinda thing. I want my faith to grow without exposing it to dangers.

I know that whoever loves God and obeys His commands belongs to God, not just people who are members of a institution.
If you love Jesus, then, why would you reject His best and greatest gift to you, that he wishes you to be a part of, the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church?

yeah that does sound like me, but you would have to know my past relation with the Church to understand why I don’t want to have anything to do with it. At the moment my focus is precisely me and God.

This is a wonderful thing to believe in! It appears you’ve taken an important first step. Continue to contemplate on this gift from God, that is Jesus through the Incarnation, and the sacrifice He made on the Cross. You will be amazed by the love that God has shown you that he gave up His only Son.

Of course, do so at a pace you are comfortable with. God Bless!

The way Christ gives Himself to you is through the Church and its sacraments. The Eucharist is such a truly profound gift. Being a part of His Church which is His body will bring you infinitly closer to Him than you could ever be otherwise!:extrahappy:

Alpha was a huge help for me when I was a young Christian - before I went all the way and became Catholic. Nicky Gumbel has such a wonderful way of explaining things.
 
Have you read Frank Sheed’s work?

Start with “Theology for Beginners”, then read “Theology and Sanity”.

Of course, all the works or C.S. Lewis.
