Converting to islam.. no not me, just in general....

The reason why there is no dating in Islam is to avoid Pre-Marital or fornification according to the muslims because they consider it a sin. Even In the Philippines Muslims adhere to their beliefs I remember a famous action star who converted to Islam married a Catholic girl that she barely met proposed to her on televison by offering a diamond ring. next thing I know they married. The Catholic girl was recently dumped by his bf and my reaction was

Oooh…of course I know all the reasons of the avoidance…so I can see that the Muslims in Phillipines are stricter than in Indonesia (with all the demands to have a separate state…LOL). There are always reasons to convert, yeaaah…the world of course offers you a lot of worldly temptations. Easy escape.

I have known 4 Catholic and 1 Presbyterian friend who converted to Islam. Without exception they did it because they fell in love with Muslim women. A strange thing happenned with them. Not having bothered to learn deeply about their Christian faith in the first place they started condemning it within a short time after their conversion as being idolatrous, the bible being corrupt, - the usual Muslim speil- and started lauding Islam as being a wonderful religion of peace, the true religion, Mohammad being a wonderful prophet etc etc. To me it sounded like the usual mental games where one tries to convince oneself, after having plunged in out of convenience, that it was really out of conviction, in order to avoid the accusation that they were of such weak wills. It certainly was not out of conviction in all cases.

I am always curious of how having believed that Jesus is God and was crucified, died and was buried and resurrected, having believed that for 30 years of his life, a Catholic could now, just because of a woman, decide to deny that.

You cannot apprach Islam at an intellectual level because it really makes no sense. It is not like Marxism in the 19th/20th century where the theories and ideals appealed even if the practice eventually failed. Muslims do not even know exactly what they believe in, why they practice what they practice, the less than virtuous life of their prophet, or what they are saying during their recitation of the quran. They just follow without questioning and do without reasoning. Submission.

The Catholic Church adopts an inclusivist approach whereby all religions are a preparation for or will lead to God through Jesus Christ. I wonder sometimes about those religions like Islam which specifically deny Jesus’ divinity, and those who convert out and thereby choose to reject him. When the time comes for every knee to bend and every tongue to confess that Jesus is Lord, will the adherents of such religions be too submissive, too brainwashed, too stubborn. too set in their ways, to make that confession?

I pray for my friends and I hope they come back.

Isn’t that practice restricted to the Shi’a, jenfla? I would be very surprised if any significant number of men convert for this reason, given the extreme minority which practices it (ditto the multiple wives bit, which last I read only make up something like 2% or less of all Muslim marriages in the entire world). I definitely wouldn’t say it never happens, because who knows, but I really, really, really doubt it. This would be like a man converting to Catholicism for the very slim chance that he might some day become Pope. Sure, your own city in Europe sounds really nice, but what are the chances?

i believe it is accepted in sunni islam as well. tomorrow i will provide some references for you.

Of course, of course. I only meant they are both very unlikely, to the point that converting for either reason would be pretty ridiculous. It is my understanding based on discussions with Muslims that this concept of “temporary marriage”, while it may be used by a minority within this or that sect, is seen as unsavory by the majority.

Indeed. Again, my only point is that its relative rarity makes it unlikely to be a primary motivating factor in conversion.

sunnis can engage in misyar, but technically they can’t enter it giving a time period, however all one has to do is declare they want a divorce and they can get out. a fatwa was issued that it indeed is permissible, and so it seems to be growing. it is not such a rare thing as one in the west might believe.

personally and from what i’ve gathered in conversation, the most difficult aspect people have with Christianity comes down to sex. i find it ridiculous that some people shop around for a faith that will suit them, rather than go about it by weeding out all the false ones, but let’s face it some people do that.

and for those that do, the idea of guilt-free, casual sex might be a rather convincing aspect to lead one to convert. just my opinion though.
