Converts from pentecostalism: worship?

I think it really depends on what type of protestant congregation you are in. It’s sort of like the worship team. At several times, the Cantor raises their hands to encourage the congregation to sing. Specifically at the Psalm, there is a refrain that the congregation joins in and the Cantor sings the verses. Sometimes this is done with a choir or several cantors. It really depends on the parish.

There are times I yearn for gathering together with enthused people of God to raise my hands in worship and sing to energetic and worshipful songs and give myself over to the spirit. I do this at home, but it’s just not the same, you know? I really miss that expression and it matches so well with my personality and how I express my love and devotion to God. Don’t get me wrong, I love the rosary, and I regularly do those things…but I really miss that expressive worship.

Are there any converts out there in the same boat? How do you cope?

Perhaps you could investigate the Charismatic Renewal. If it is possible, try to attend one of the conferences at Franciscan University of Steubenville, as the movement is very active there.

Cool thanks…We have a whole team that’s led by a young couple…The couple just radiates Christ in all they say/do…

Yeah it’s sort of like that. The worship leader = Cantor. I sang on a worship team at the Assembly of God church that I attended before becoming Catholic. I’m grateful for that experience. I pray that I radiate Christ as well. I think that keeping the focus on God is the main reason why we sing at all.

Hehehe! I suppose I should admit that when I raise my hands to indicate that it is the congregation’s turn to sing in the responsorial psalm, I leave them raised a little longer than I should 😉

I am also INCREDIBLY grateful that I don’t have a hard time getting them to sing! Although I am getting to know the congregation more as a group now and judging which songs they want to sing. I am going to be pulling some new ones in soon based on these observations. I can tell which songs they collectively hate. lol
 
I know this comes like a month late, but as I was reading the threads, I was wondering if you had thought of being in the choir? At our church, we have great choir singers that almost inspire and motivate the assembly to really praise the Lord with more emotion than the old “reading out of a book” style singing. You would be doing both types of worship. Plus, depending on where the choir is located (ours is in the back of the church on a balcony), you could be raising your hands doing whatever and everything would be alright. 😃

I pray you were able to find what you were looking for, may God continue to touch your heart and strengthen your faith in Him.
