What are some of the most fun and your favorite things about being catholic, attending the catholic church, and just the catholic lifestyle in general. Im just curious and want to learn more. Thanks!

2 cool things: I can be politically incorrect and counter-cultural.

What are some of the most fun
We have a Church that teaches truth without falsehood (and actually says so). We have a Church where we can receive the true Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Our Lord Jesus Christ (not just a symbolic piece of bread). My Church has Bishops who were ordained by Bishops, all the way back to the Apostles (and we can prove it for each and every Bishop). And one of those Bishops ordained my priest. We have a Church that is as old as Christendom (and we can prove it). Martin Luther invented the Lutheran Church, but our Church was established by Jesus Christ. That’s real. That’s cool.

Holy Water. I carry some in my purse.

And beautiful stained glass.

I do miss church nurseries though…HAHA – finally I found SOMETHING I miss about the baptist church!

I used to sit in mass and pray, “jesus I know you loved children, why can’t I???” because the children were so noisy in church. Then one day I sat behind a family who had little ones and their hands were so full, and the mother took one to the crying room (different than a church nursery)…and the baby in the little you know like a carseat carrier thing lost the nipple from the bottle that had been propped so I was kneeling there, so I reached over and started feeding the baby, and God just melted my heart about babies in Church…Now I’m just glad they are THERE! Of course babies belong in Church!

At the end of the service our pastor and I met eyes, and he was beaming ear to ear seeing someone with their arm over a pew…but sometimes I still wish we had church nurseries! haha

One of my favoriate things about the Catholic Church is the vast storehouse of history, theology, and philosophy that allows the individual member of the Body of Christ more than enough food for growth for an entire lifetime. The Church certainly satisfies my own insatiable appetite to learn and practice my faith while improving myself. Of course, the purpose of all this then helps us prepare to live with God in eternal happiness in the life to come.

Good responses all! 👍

  1. *]The Eucharist. Without it church would be empty. Like going to a fine restaurant, paying the price, and then getting nothing on my plate.
*]Our prayers! Beautiful and inspired like the Anima Christi, The St. Michael prayer, and the hymn Tantum Ergo to name just a very few!

There is much much more, but these leapt to mind s I began to respond.
    God’s peace,

My favorite thing about the Church is bittersweet: it is the wonderful music which I never hear in the liturgy. Gregorian chant, Byzantine polyphony, traditional organ hymns. Despite orthodoxy in doctrine and painstaking accuracy in liturgical practice, my parish insists on using bad music.

Another totally random thing that I love about being Catholic: the smells. I love the fresh smell of my cassock as I vest, the heavenly smell of the incense (when it’s not going right up my nose!) and even the smell of beeswax as freshly burning candles are extinguished. The latter smell always went hand in hand with “The Mass is ended, go in peace! Thanks be to God!”

AND we invented croissants!

Bingo, Beer, and Bratwurst (at the festivals) 😃

As you might guess I live in a historically German community…

Seriously though others have already listed most of mine.

For me the “coolest” thing is the Eucharist. Absolutely tops the list…

Other things are the History, consistancy of teaching, the “smells and bells” - daily mass (what other faith community has services every day)

I guess those are the biggies…

My favorite thing about the Catholic Church is that it is universal. When I go to Mass I know that I am worshipping God together with people all around the world at the same time, not just with my congregation. There is always Mass going on somewhere in this world. I find that awesome. AND I am worshipping God right along with all the angels and those who have gone before me. I can almost feel that at Mass. I think the belief in the Communion of Saints is one of the most awesome things we believe.

From the T-Shirt in my closet:

10.) It’s politically incorrect. (Annoy the Catholic bashers).
9.) You can sing badly, and no one cares. (9 out of 10 American Catholics are musically impaired).
8.) You can impress your friends. (Tell them you belong to a militant international institution).
7.) Your Mother. (Low cost way to keep her happy).
6.) Great Weddings! (When it comes to ceremony, the Catholic Church is smokin’).
5.) Great Pope!
4.) Saints. (Talk about friends in high places!)
3.) Confession. (No, it’s not fun, but what a deal).
2.) Dependability. (Jesus founded our Chuch on Peter, the rock, and promised that the gates of hell should not prevail against It.)
And the number one reason to stay Roman Catholic is the awesome gift of… (Drum roll, please…)

(On the back side of the shirt)

THE EUCHARIST!

“He who eats My Flesh and drinks My Blood will have eternal life, and I shall raise him on the last day. For My Flesh is real food and My Blood is real drink. He who eats My Flesh and drinks My Blood lives in Me and I in him.”
  • John 6:54-56

I agree with all the answers that have already been given and in adding my two cents worth, i would say that I like the many catholic devotions that help keep the soul in communion with Christ, like praying the Rosary and Divine Mercy daily. Plus, being Catholic is never ending, there is always something new to learn and live.

God Bless!!!

I agree with everyone’s responses as well! There are too many awesome things about the Church but here are two I love as well:
  1. The saints! We have the intercession of all the Saints in heaven and our loved ones who have gone on to be with our Lord!
  2. The unity. You can go to any Catholic church in the world and the core truths, doctrines, and liturgy will be the same!! Maybe you might experience some slight difference in liturgical practice, but in the end, we are still ONE.

Good answers. One other thing that comes to mind for me (and I once also heard convert and radio host Al Kresta say this), is the coherence of Catholicism. How so many of the truths are intertwined and related.

Options!

I do not mean “cafeteria” but all the queries on CA Radio “What does the Church teach exactly about X?”
Well, most things we can believe what we want within basic teachings.
No one is looking to program our brains.
