I
I can see them wanting this if theirs is a very small parish, like mine. It is very hard for a tiny parish to maintain consistency with ECF (Eastern Christian Formation). Sometimes there are no more than one or two kids per grade, if even that.Nevertheless, I highly recommend that they supplement with the excellent catechetical materials available through God With Us Books (https://godwithusbooks.org). The series was developed by the bishops of the various Byzantine Rite Churches in the United States. In this way. their child will also be taught the distinct theological approach to his or her own rite. Meanwhile, pray for the parish that they are able to develop a better ECF program of their own. They are compromising by enrolling their son in faith formation at the Latin-Rite parish. The Latin-rite parish has a more cohesive faith formation program. Canon law states that their marriage and their baby’s baptism had to take place at the Byzantine parish since her husband is Byzantine-rite. But it’s not every day that the bishop randomly shows up at your parish so they were a bit stunned, but in a good way.
Yes, in general from the Catholic father, but when both are Catholic they can agree that it be that of the Mother.Wow. Thanks for the information. Many years ago a friend basically said the same in a casual way (the bride follows the husband’s religion), but I just kept a wondering, as I didn’t think at the time to ask further.:woman_facepalming:t2: :woman_shrugging:t2:
