Would it be acceptable for a Coptic Orthodox Church to use a Roman Catholic Church to hold their services or Masses? I

I don’t know that I have an objection. I was just wondering if other churches were allowed to use a parish for their services.

It’s happened in our area. The Monsignor considered it a kindness. This was for other Catholic Churches while they were building of course. The other denom’s (Baptists, Methodists, etc) were free to use our parish hall. And many many churches did this. When you’re in a rural area, people have few options.

If the Coptics are part of the Alexandrian Rite, they are in full communion with the Roman Church.

Yes, it is allowed. In a nearby town the anglophone Catholics “borrowed” the United church for their Mass. So it cuts both ways.

OP, did you really suspect that our Coptic Orthodox brothers would be barred from using a Catholic Church? I hope not.

i wish we could bring ALL of our coptic orthodox brethren here to the USA to worship in peace and to pray for the souls of their (our) slaughtered martyrs

Coptic Orthodox are of the Alexandrian rite, but are not in communion with Rome.

A parish I was in several years ago offered our church building to a local Orthodox parish that had a fire.

They celebrated Divine Liturgy at our parish while theirs was being renovated from the fire.

I personally had no problems, as theirs is a valid Eucharist with a valid priest. I would feel more uncomfortable offering the same to a Protestant church, at least for our sactuary.

The Episcopalians are graciously allowing our mission to use their Church for our Saturday Vigil.

The Baptists here allowed us to use one of their big churches in Atlanta for overflow seating for the ordination of our Aux Bishop.

@PaulfromIowa, I didn’t say that I had an objection. I really just had a question. Please don’t read more into it than was presented and it’s not nice to try to shame someone for asking a question.

Under certain conditions, yes.
  1. Catholic churches are consecrated or blessed buildings which have an important theological and liturgical significance for the Catholic community. They are therefore generally reserved for Catholic worship. However, if priests, ministers or communities not in full communion with the Catholic Church do not have a place or the liturgical objects necessary for celebrating worthily their religious ceremonies, the diocesan Bishop may allow them the use of a church or a Catholic building and also lend them what may be necessary for their services. Under similar circumstances, permission may be given to them for interment or for the celebration of services at Catholic cemeteries.
