My teacher gave the whole class photocopys form a textbook and at the time the teacher jokingly said that they may have to spend the rest of their adult life in prison or something like that. So I think they knew they were braking copyright laws but was I receiving stolen goods by reading and using this photocopy?

Another teacher asked us to watch a video on vimeo for homework. I think someone had just recorded a tv program and put it on vimeo so was it ok for me to watch it?

Answer are appreciated.

Pretty sure that’s a fair use exemption in copyright law, so you’re okay.

“you are being scrupulous” → Not necessarily.

Copyright issues are murky and hard to understand. One SHOULD worry about whether or not they are receiving stolen materials.

Thankfully the other poster on this thread pointed the fair use clause.

OP: I wouldn’t worry too much. Don’t keep these items AFTER your assignment is done and you’ll be fine.
