Copyright Videos

I let someone use my ipad to see something on YouTube. I got worried afterwards that it might be a sin for me to let him use it since he was watching something that might have been copyright infringement (video game music). I guessed, at first, that it wasn’t since everyone watching the video knew that it was the game’s music, not the uploader’s, but I started to question myself. I was worried that I may have commited a sin by allowing him to use my ipad to support it. Was it a sin?

That is the problem with youtube. Songs and videos are sometimes posted illegally, and some people don’t take the time to find out which are legal and which are not. Part of the problem, I think, is “who do I contact”? It’s one thing to go to a singer’s web site, for example, and see a message like, “My songs, or certain songs, or videos are available on youtube for free.”

I generally will not look at or listen to anything on youtube that is posted by julian28576, or BoB2300, as opposed to MGM Digital which is offering some original TV programs.

You need to talk to your priest, it seems like you have a conscience that may tend towards scrupulosity on this matter.
