I asked “if you knew there was a possibility that taking the body and blood of Christ can give you an illness would you still take it?” in general, not based on the present situation.
Hmmm… I’m not sure there is an in general. I mean, sure, one can think of general fictional scenarios, or imagine what it would have been like if we had taken part in that first Eucharist 2000 years ago.

But for me, believing that Jesus is God incarnate precisely means meeting Him in my here and now, in my concrete present situation, not in maybe/what if fictional scenarios – and for now, that’s meeting Him in a world stricken by a pandemic. And in that particular situation, as I said, I’d choose not to receive even if I could, because I think my priority should be protecting others.

That said, as you will know if you ever took a peek at my profile, I’m ministering a Protestant parish while trying to make my way into the Catholic Church. In my community, at every Eucharist (I mean, back then when we had services and Eucharists), the custom is that the celebrant communes last. That means I drink from the chalice after everyone else did. I’m verging on germaphobe and this is so difficult for me – but yes, I do it, while praying “Lord, Your will be done”, and praying also that if sick people are present, they had the good sense of refraining from the chalice.
