It makes me upset, too.
I have never touched the Bread of Life with my hands.

Why can’t The Church just let us take responsibility for our own health and continue to receive on the tongue?
I still do not understand how receiving in the hand is more sanitary than have Communion placed on my tongue.

Maybe because it goes beyond just you! We can’t just think of ourselves! You could be putting others in danger unknowingly! I’m reading a lot of “I never”
" and I don’t want tos"…a lot of “I”… and not enough good old-fashioned Catholic Christian thinking of others here.

Thanks for judging me as selfish and uncaring. That helps a lot!
My feeling is that touching Communion with my hands is a sinning. I am desecrating the Bread of Life by touching Jesus with my hands.
The Priest is an ordained representative of God. Deacons and Eucharistic Ministers have a special calling to assist the Priest. I know you do not share my feelings. But please do not dismiss what bothers me about Communion In The Hand.

Have you ever accepted on your tongue?
The person presenting it places the Host on my tongue. I do not make contact with his or her fingers.

When I was growing up, we all accepted Communion on our tongue.
It was not until much more recent times that this communion in the Hand thing came about.

Yes I have received on the tongue. Not the point.
Maybe others aren’t as as good at it as you and the hierarchy that God had placed in authority over us has noticed that this can happen and have made a decision to protect people from a very contagious virus. I trust the people who know these things better than myself.

I get not shaking hands.
I get not putting out Holy Water at the entry to Church.
I get the no contact stuff.
But the long tradition and history of the Church is to have communion distributed to the congregation on the tongue. This is a very special thing!

Anyone maintaining that there’s no chance of spreading a virus, if thousands of Eucharistic ministers with varying levels of skill are giving Communion to hundreds of thousands of people with varying levels of skill at receiving the host on the tongue, truly is sticking their head in the sand.

I’m not sure if transmission is more likely at Communion or by the way a virus is commonly spread, but it is prudent to take precautions in every feasible way that still allows Mass to be held and Communion received.

By the way, at the Last Supper, did not the apostles receive with their hands?

I wonder if it too dangerous to receive Communion on the tongue at Mass whether it is too dangerous to be at the Mass.

Statistics at COVID Live Update: 188,084,379 Cases and 4,055,939 Deaths from the Coronavirus - Worldometer have China with new deaths zero, new cases 12. Italy has new cases 587, new deaths 28.

How did China achieve this? Entire country cancelling sporting events and closing theatres, extending school breaks that began in mid-January, many businesses closing shop, anyone who went outdoors had to wear a mask, using mobile phone apps Alipay and WeChat to track people’s movements and stop those with infections from travelling. (From what I read at https://www.sciencemag.org/news/202...coronavirus-they-may-not-work-other-countries ).

Singapore’s methods also seem effective. Deaths zero, new cases zero, no public Masses.
It’s a predictable outcome. We have a new wave of science deniers blossoming.

If my parish decides to suspend COTT, is there an alternative for those of us who do not believe in CITH?
I am a cradle, practicing Catholic.
I have never touched the Bread of Life with my hands.
May I go to confession, no my penance, and do some sort of spiritual acceptance of Communion?
I know we are supposed to receive the Body of Christ, but I do not feel right about touching it with my hands.
Are there any priests, deacons, or any others here who can answer my plea?
I pray for us all. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

We are not Jesus’ apostles. We are descendants of the early Church.

And should this suspension of COTT contribute past the Lenten Season?
