Hello everyone,

According to many opinions, I’ve understood that the mortification involves both prayer with charity, that helps us to REACH a love similar to the love of God, and a negation, sometimes, of some useless things or pleasures of the world, at the ONLY purpose to learn how to become wise and well controlled (my confessor, that I can define a very wise man, today said that physical punishment is absolutely wrong, and that mortification is just learning how to control ourselves with reason and moderation, nothing more).
Am I right on what I’ve just said? Was my confessor right?

If your priest or confessor doesn’t think u should be doing harsh mortification then don’t do it.

Your confessor know far more about you than a group of people on the internet. His discussions are to you personally.

I’m not going to second-guess your confessor. You should do what he says and not be asking a bunch of us lay people if he’s right or not.

Isn’t this the third thread you have started in the past few days on exactly the same topic. We all gave you answers in the other threads.
