AltarMan:
Thank you for your help. Two things made me resolve to follow the Church and not local politics.

First, the comments you sent me from the Rev. Fr. Perrone. He came across on EWTN as an extremely orthodox, faithful and intellegent priest so his comments really made an impression.

Second this quote from the Pope that someone here had as part of their signature:

“A man of conscience is one who never acquires tolerance, well-being, success, public standing, and approval on the part of prevailing opinion, at the expense of truth.” – Pope Benedict XVI

The two really prepared me for the ultimate meeting.
You go, Atlarman!! 👍 :dancing:
We’re praying for you!!!

That is the whole problem I had through the last 20 years is that I compromised solid Catholic values in the name of Charity.

Charity cloaked with compromises isn’t true charity. 😦

Indeed. While one must always be tactful and as sensitive as possible, I think those trying to push liturgical delicts and abuses need to know they will be strongly opposed at the laity level.

They need to know that they will be opposed by faithful who have done their homework. Faithful who are ferociously loyal to the Vicar of Christ on Earth and to their local ordinaries.

I don’t think the orthodox faithful need to prevail on every issue, every time, to be of service to the Church either. I just think the dissenters need to know that they are going to take a metaphorical beating if they try to introduce liturgical delicts and abuses, and that alone should act as great deterrence.

I’m with you on that… 👍

Our “new” assiciate and pastor don’t retain any of the old ways of serving. since the third grade, I have been alter serving (that is about 10 years) and have seen a progression through the church… WE CAN NO LONGER GENUFLECT TO THE TABERNACLE–HOLDING OUR LORD-- DURING MASS W/O GETTING YELLED AT BY OUR ASSOCIATE PASTOR! IT IS REDICULOUS… AND WE WONDER WHY CHILDREN DON’T REALIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF OUR LORD NOW!

That was my bit of a rant… I am only 18 and realize I have much to learn… but it is a bit rediculous

You need to go visit Msgr. Francis Weber at Mission San Fernando in nearby Mission Hills. The self-described “old country priest” is sure to celebrate the Mass in an extremely solemn and abuse-free manner, in a very historic setting. He even celebrates it Tridentine style once a month I believe.

I don’t know the precise timing of your genuflections to the Blessed Sacrament reposed in the tabernacle, but I would have a talk mano a mano to any priest who yelled at me at any time.

However, always assume that the person who is initiating these things is well-intentioned. That helps to set the tone of a charitable, but straightforward and truthful response. They may not like it, but how we say something is as important as what is said. In some cases, it doesn’t matter how nice you say it they will feel offended.
