Today I have the privilege to dress in a blue tu-tu skirt, Cinderella tee-shirt, and hair in a ballerina-bun. Today, my costume is Cinderella Mom. So, after ballet, I took the girls to Mc Donald’s a little hesitant about being in a costume.

Turns out as I sit in the middle of a hullabaloo play center watching the parents … We are all dressed in costumes. I see a grandmother in her eighties wearing a leapor print jacket (pretending to be a cat). Her son who is with her is dressed like Steve Jobs (black long sleeve top & jeans) … Next table is the sporty couple who are wearing sports jerseys and hoodies … Another table has a hip grandmother who styles her hair like Faira Fosset … And there is a biker dad dressed in leather … We also have the mom’s who are dressed a little too immodest (& I can see her but crack ) … Surprisingly, there is only one mom who is in sweat shirt (I don’t care) mode. The more I think about it … The more I wonder if we really can identify who we truly are without a costume.

Priests dress in costumes, police men dress in costumes, firemen, doctors, engineers, astronaughts, ballerina’s, artists, athletes, horseback riders, motorcycle riders, cyclets, professional, politicians … We are all playing dress up. Why are we so needy to play dress up our entire lives?

I am not sure what you are asking. Also, where the people you described just wearing their everyday clothes and you assigned a character to them?

For most of these examples there is a functional and/or symbolic purpose of the “costume”. Send your astronaut up in a tutu and you’ll work out the answer to your question.

Actually, we used the amazon box he diapers came in to build a rocket ship and then wore our tu-tu’s up to space. Someday, we may well indeed be able to wear our tu-tu’s into space!
