Could anyone recommend a healing/blessed oil for me?

When someone wants to source a blessed oil from somewhere else for a better result that is superstition.
Its no better than the endless foolish discussions women have on CAF about what type of mantilla is best to wear at mass.
God is really taking the back seat to some obsession with the feeling of devotion than actual devotion of God.
Reminds me of teenage girls who dont actually love their endless succession of trophy boyfriends but love the feeling of being in love. The actual boy is a mere adornment.

That’s not what Andy indicated in his opening post.

I use many different Sacramentals myself.

The Rosary is a Sacramental. So is Holy Water, and Lourdes Water, for another example.

I don’t come here to debate or argue with others on the Internet, so this will be the last post that I will leave in this thread.

I left a link for you above regarding Sacramentals, so that you have a better understanding of their use.

I wish you well, and also wish you God’s blessings, too. 🙂

No, it is not, BlackFriar. It is to ask if perhaps an oil may or may not come to a better result thanks to a saint’s preference for the source in the same way a bottle of water from Lourdes is considered more effective than one from the tap in your church’s lav. You’re taking this way out of scope to prove a point that isn’t relevant here.

Ah, thank you, I was looking for Laboure oil as the basilica in Canada doesn’t seem to have any in stock. Though, I’ve a devotion to St. Anne I find the Marian oriented sacramentals to be of value to my purposes. Thank you.
If you are Canadian, I would suggest the Oil of Saint Joseph because of its connection to the Oratory – which I had the privilege of visiting many times across many years – and its connection to Saint Andre, the founder of the Oratory.

I am sad to see there are so many negative comments in response to your query.

Andy, I have an ongoing health issue with no current cure. Since attending anointing Masses, (every few months) my symptoms have drastically decreased in a few areas. My prospective Superior always anoints me with oil when we have our chats too.

Lourdes water, even though I don’t use it myself, is also good. I give it as gifts in small vials to others undergoing illness or ops.

Woah. So what you’re saying is, holy water is holy water, period? Like, there’s no difference between exorcised holy water, Lourdes water, and holy water that just has the sign of the cross made over it? 😶 And you’re saying that it’s more efficacious for me to focus on praying for my own intentions, rather than trying to connect with a saint’s intercession for my cause? 😶

I’m not Canadian, sorry to say (especially these days, lol), but, am very familiar with St. Bessette as I credit him with a revelation at his daughter church in Laconia, New Hampshire and will certainly look into obtaining some for that reason. Thank you. 🙂

I’m thinking he’s struggling with other issues and this sort of detraction on his part is of such. He’s been proven wrong several times over and still refuses to admit to it by committing the sin of legalism.

For a start, you’re in my prayers. Secondly, thank you for the testimony as I credit my use of St. Anne’s oil with a marked decrease in stress related issues (digestive).

If you are from New Hampshire, you might have occasion to visit the shrine to Our Lady of La Salette that the Missionaries of La Salette staff in Enfield, New Hampshire.

You might like to read this article about the water of the spring of La Salette. La Salette was approved over a hundred years ago.

The suggestion concerning Lourdes Water can be easily fulfilled by contact with the Oblates of Mary Immaculate…they make it easily available.

There is no Catholic use for oil as a DIY Sacramental. Approach your priest for the anointing of the sick if you are in grave/serious illness.
Of course there is.

Oil as a sacramental that has been blessed is very different from the matter for the Sacrament of the Sick.

Do you know any Holy Cross Fathers (CSC)? St Andre (I note also, your namesake) was a CSC so one of them might be able to help you. As a teaching order, they’re widespread.

Let me get this right.
You are looking for healing of some sort and are asking which oil from which location is more naturally potent in this regard?
And your criterion for judging the natural potency of oil is the pedigree of alleged endorsement by a saint?

Do you realise how silly this sounds if this is what you mean?
You do realise that oil does not naturally heal many of the things people are anointed for by priests dont you?

Its a symbol of the healing we believe God can effect.
So the nature, quality or source of the olive oil really is inconsequential. Please tell us you know this 😮 🙂

Yes this is much more in line with what the Magisterium actually teaches.

Andy the amount of superstition opetating at Lourdes amongst visitors is also not insignificant. I pilgrimaged there last month.

Many old ladies process into the grotto and capture the dew on the walls with their hankies. Objectively that is silly. The water of Lourdes rises from a spring 4 metres away beneath their feet which is now sealed off and behind glass and leads to the taps located farther away.

Thats ok of course, everybody is on journey from darkness to light.

My small point here is that its a journey not a place of rest and devotion not grounded on objectivity easily goes off to unhelpful lala land that does nothing to spread the faith to new generations.

You do realize how much a personal crusade you’re waging here, right? By being so hopelessly legalistic and needlessly reading context into an issue that doesn’t exist you’re committing the sin of legalism. What you are doing is comparing a “product” direct from a source as being the same as the cast off material from said source. I’m not interested in obtaining the oil a shrine keeps in the back room or the stuff they spill on the floor, per your Lourdes dew analogy. No, I’m interested in its counterpart oil: the actual product, the water, the sacramental, as an oil. Please, get some help as the degree of anal retentiveness you’re displaying here I’m sure extends elsewhere in your life.

Andy its a free forum. I am politely challenging what I see as the erroneous approach to Catholic sacramentals you continue to espouse and provide reasoned argument for doing so. That is what a forum is about.

I would suggest that a Christian committed to improving their character as much as their devotional practises would attack the ball not the man, the arguments not the contributor.

Calling people anal rententive, saying they are committing sins, asking them to “get help” is somewhat immature spiritual potty-mouth stuff.

Hardly the way to convince other readers here that what you say is truly of God.
God bless.

BlackFriar: you’ve done nothing, but, that this whole time. That is why I am saying so. You are misusing this forum to wage a personal battle. You practically say so in your last comment and you have not been polite, you have been forceful and anything, but, constructive. Have you noticed the other comments declaring so? Seriously, you’re exhibiting an inferiority complex by using this forum to transfer a misbegotten sensibility. That’s not good and you are indeed displaying a problem here. What I am asking is not a part of superstition. You’re imposing that upon my query out of what must be another, unrelated cause or trauma. Please, go to a therapist. Not a public forum for this sort of thing.

Perhaps you might like to cease the pottymouth ad hominems and talk to my arguments Andy…
