What should I do if I feel that when I make good things for others I get depress or it makes me feel bad?
Should I think and focus just in myself and in my needs, or should I try to be good with others and offer my pain to God even if that could be self destructing?

In my case Im a handicap person and I try to be nice with my exgirlfriend and with other peopel as well but I get depress because im diferent from them, they can go out have fun meet people and have a life, however my life is quite diferent I cant go out nor meet people and that stuffs, and it is a nightmare to wonder about how my future would be like in several years, But normaly im in a good spirit and im ok.

Im not sure if I should stop having any contact with her, or should I keep trying to be his friend?

Also Im a non praticant catholic, and Im also having a lot problem with the idea of offering my problems and my pains to God, because I think that is self destructing.
Sometime I become skeptic about God, and it makes me feel worst, and I think I should be away from catholicism for a while in order to have more space for myself and in order to achive happiness in another ways that are not depending of religion.

I will welcome your advices, thanks for all.

I think that suffering is a very good thing that is lost on today’s culture. Giving of yourself to help others (sacrifice) is an amazing thing and it almost always comes with some sort of suffering. That is the nature of sacrifice though. I wouldn’t be so quick to link depression with sacrifice, however. While I agree that at times it may be saddening to endure suffering while others seem to “have it good”, I think a lot of the depression comes from a lack of true understanding of the goodness in sacrifice. Sadness is often the selfish desires of the person trying to refocus your attention on you and your woes because selfishness does not live well with self-giving; the two are incompatible. However, I think all of this would be pointless if God was not the center of it. The reason we sacrifice and suffer is God. It comes from God’s call to love one another as Christ loved; Christ loved by giving his life up for us. We too are called by God to give of ourselves (usually not our actual life, but rather different aspects of it such as our own wants of things like wealth, power,…) through sacrifice in love. I warn you to stay away from ideas of happiness without God because there is no lasting happiness that does not come from God.

You might consider some counseling to address this problem with a good Catholic counselor. 🙂

well I dont think it is a big deal, besides I cant go to church because of my illness, anyway thanks for your advices.

You should contact your local parishes until you find one that will not only bring you the Eucharist but will find people to visit with you and help you with your needs. I hope you haven’t already done this and not found anyone to help, but if that’s the case, you do have us. Talk to us all you please. There will always be people here willing to talk to you and befriend you. You can also contact the Forum Administrator about your need for friends and spiritual counseling at: forumadmin@catholic.com.

Jimmy, just yesterday I heard a very inspiring talk by a former top fashion photographer who was stricken by MS and had to give up her very high life. She saw it as a blessing because it removed all the things that had separated her from the pure love of her art. She now photographs for the pure joy of it, and the beauty she can offer to others.

Don’t think of it as pointless destruction. You’ll discover real freedom from the purification that comes with suffering. Here’s an apostolate that I’m trying to engage in with my handicapped friends: Knights at the Foot of the Cross
