I’m starting this thread because I’ve been on a thread where Jack Chick and his tracts have been discussed by several forum members. It seems so important and so emotional a topic that I thought it deserved its own thread.

What I am asking is:

IS JACK CHICK RIGHT??

For anyone who does not know, Jack Chick is the writer of a large number of small pamphlets or tracts which seem to attack the Catholic Church, and also other faiths. I don’t know what church Jack Chick belongs to, or even if he is still alive. The tracts are easily accessible by googling “Jack Chick.” I don’t want to post any links at this time because I don’t want to pick out one tract in particular.

Is Jack Chick right in what he states about the Catholic Church (and other churches)?

Is it at all possible that he is right?

H.E.C.K. N.O.

He took a book out of the “Anti-Catholicism for Dummies”, mixed it with “Sarcasm for the Witless”, drew a few pictures, and created that stuff. I would hope someone with half a mind for the truth wouldn’t go near it.

steps off soapbox

I could be mistaken, but I won’t admit it 👍🤷

It is impossible that he is right. He is wrong about the most basic history, meaning that he did not know things that could be verified. If a man does not fact check that which is easy, why should I assume that he checked that which is hard?

His version of the catholic church is the stuff of fiction. A basic course in western civ teaches that.

Thank you!! You’ve posted the first reply (not that you win a prize or anything) 🙂

Nope, he’s actually not correct…

“Satan had tried desperatly to put the “Apocrypha” in the old testament”

Problem:

The 7 books he’s referring to had been in the bible for over 1,500 years before the protestant reformers decided they’d switch the Septuigent over to the Hebrew Torah. More over, it’s not a question of books, it’s a question of translation… There are references Christ makes, to books not among the deuterocanonical books which can not be found in the Protestant old testament exactly, they’re cut off half way and in many cases ambigiously written in hebrew (i.e. the “virgin” v. “young woman” contraversy). Chick is wrong, his attacks are baseless. That’s just 1 cartoon.

The question(in my opinion) is ludicrous in itself and I’m quite surprised that ANY Catholic who comprehends his/her faith would waste anyone’s time by posing it on a Catholic forum unless that person is trying to provoke controversy, furor, and anger. These fora are are for reasoned discussion from a Christian perspective and all too often devolve into an us against them mentality with accompanying uncharitable posts. This question as you well know(in my opinion)is a lightening rod for Catholics who are targeted for hate by this sick, bigoted old man who desperately needs our prayer.

But there have been several posters as of late that have been sold on this man’s work. So, it’s not that ridiculous of a topic, unfortunately.

Even when I was a Pentecostal Christian with deep misgivings about the Catholic Church I could see that Mr. Chick’s rantings against Catholicism were nothing more than hatred disguised as evangelical outreach. Anyone who could possibly buy into such stuff hasn’t a notion what true Catholicism is, has no understanding of real history, and must have some need to be confirmed in their own bigotry.

Wow, that is pretty bad. 😦

He’s been disproved again and again, sometimes even by non-Catholics. He states facts without verifying it with sources, and sometimes the only thing he can use to back up what he says is a cute picture of the devil smiling over the Vatican. 90% of the time the sources he quotes are from his own publishing company (which would be like Saddam Hussein quoting Baghdad Bob).

The apostle John said to test whether the spirits be of God (1 John 4:1)…so far, I haven’t seen much of the spirit of God in Jack Chick. I pray that someday he wakes up and realizes the mistakes he’s making, lying in the name of a Lord he claims to love.

I don’t know much about him.

Supposedly he is against abortion, premarital sex and homosexuality. So he’s taken the right road on at least some of his teachings.

His fundamentalist beliefs are what drive him. It’s funny that he’s so traditional on such things without giving any credit to the Church that taught these them long before his faith community came along. The man is myopic when it comes to the things he hates without reason. If you read his books you can easily see there’s no reason to anything he writes. It’s all knee jerk reactions. Hardly a basis for the truth. That he gets some things right only makes him all the more dangerous to innocent minds who might think he must be right about everything else, as well.

hes just another in a long line of conpiracy theorist, making money of the simple and the stupid, who dont want to do their own research. i started a thread about this clown awhile back, and basically, he takes the same track as the anti semites, anti mormons, anti masons, etc etc etc. he just likes to pick on the Catholics is all. thats the group he loves to hate. apparently its the jesuites that are responsible for all the worlds ills, communism. naziism etc etc. which is interesting because other conspiracy theorist said it was the jews… or was it the mormons…or was it the masons? all these bags of wind write the same theory and just attach a group to it which they hate. that all. its about $$$$$:D peace be with you.

The few who have come out in support of him either do so on a limited bases, or are completely looney themselves.

Hey that’s me…I have handed out hundreds of "this is your life"over the years. My radical conversion experience to Christ started from that same booklet…I had to admit I was more interested in the blond that gave it to me…But you know what, the Holy Spirit started working through the scripture in that booklet and the next thing you know I was in a church and committing my life to Christ…Same with my druggie coworker…Our coworkers in the office wondered what become of us…We started telling them about Jesus and His plan of redemption…

Anyway does he got it all right, I say no…Do we have it all right , I’d say “no” also…Does the Lord work through us in spite of our junk. Have some of his booklets led people to His kingdom…I’d have to say yes. Will he receive a “soul winners crown” for those who did…Only the Lord knows…I do know He works in me spite of my faults…I also know we will all give account for our words/deeds…Some will have it rougher that others…For my part I am doing my best to allow the Holy Spirit towork in me and change me into His image as I hide His word in my heart…peace to you…K

Yes indeedy, I have in my possession a King James Bible printed in Canada in 1876… This Bible contains the so-called Apocrypha, all 15 books…So, according to the Chick people Satan infiltrated the KJV as well?

Even a blind squirel finds a nut every now and then.

The issue is not just with his theology. IN fact, many people have worse theology than he does. It is with the venom and hatred that he attacks those who disagree with his brand of Chrstianity. Hate consumes him, or at least that is how he comes across. This leads to wilder and more rediculous claims.

This is all good. 🙂 There’s nothing wrong with scaring the devil out of people, as the saying goes. I saw a man on EWTN’s Journey Home program (that’s a Catholic program on a Catholic TV station, for those who don’t know) who picked up one of those tracts and gave his life to Christ. Eventually, God led him into the Catholic Church. So, indeed, God does continue to lead us on our spiritual journey no matter how it got started.

The only problem with Mr. Chick’s tracts comes from the ones that unfairly, untruthfully, and, I have to say it, downright nastily attack fellow Christians who are not part of his faith community. It shows a lack of understanding and of good grace. He may find that his own judgment day may not be quite as happy as he has imagined it because of that.
