Could missing daily Mass be a mortal sin?

So I have gotten into the habit of going to Mass every morning and I’ve got a question about what it would mean to miss it. Say one morning, out of pure laziness, I decided to skip it. Since I have raised going to daily Mass up to be my own standard, if I were to just go ahead and skip it, I feel like I would be turning my back on God to some extent, ultimately feeling a little guilty. Could this be a sin? To what level of sin?

The Church does not oblige Catholics to attend daily Mass under pain of sin. Certainly Catholics are encouraged to attend daily Mass, if possible, but it is not required. Not living up to a standard you’ve set for yourself may be personally disappointing, but it would be better to consider it an indicator of where in your spiritual life that you need to improve, rather than an indicator of sin. Also, please be aware that too much focus on whether you are meeting standards you set for yourself – as distinguished from standards the Church requires – can lead to scrupulosity. I recommend consulting with a spiritual director before trying to set any hard-and-fast spiritual disciplines for yourself, particularly if you are tempted to consider commitment to those disciplines to be inflexible.
