Could somebody explain to me about rites?

(Seeking Protestant here…just trying to understand)

I keep seeing people referring to other rites, perhaps the Coptic, or some eastern Catholic like Ukrainian for instance.

What are these? Are they in full communion with the Roman Catholics? Are they aberrations, or do they have their own authorities? Are they schisms?
