Could somebody sell their soul to Satan?

In the entertainment industry etc., there are often references to somebody selling their sour for money, fame, power etc. in this life. Is this act actually possible? If so, is there a ritual that must be followed (obviously I don’t want to know what it is) and could somebody sell there soul by something they thought, but did not say?
