Hail Mary,
full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the Fruit Of Thy Womb,
Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of our death.
Amen

wow, you all are amazing. thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers. sometime monday morning they pulled him off of the respirator, because they believed he was showing signs of being able to breathe on his own. by monday afternoon he was awake. i have yet to see him as he was “discharged” from the hospital, but im assuming he was taken to a place to recover and get help (our hosiptal normally sends attempted suicide cases to another location as the mental health wing is normally packed). I’m just praying that he is open to receiving help, and is able to start recovering. thank you all once again.

Ash:

Thank you for posting on behalf of your friend. You’ve done well. I’m glad your friend is alive and that he’s better.

In California, if someone attempts suicide as your friend did, he or she is usually placed under a 72 hour hold for observation. During this time, your friend will be examined by psychiatrists & Licensed Clinical Social Workers to see if he is mentally ill (If he poses a risk to himself or others) and requires psychiatric treatment.

Let us know where your friend is & if you can visit him. Visitation by friends and family can be part of a healthy treatment regime and can really help a patient recover, esp. if he was really depressed.

Michael,

I believe the laws in PA are the same as California. Or at least 5 years ago they were. The hospital he was taken to is probably one of the best in the state, although their mental health floor is normally impossible to get into to. Most of the time they send people off to facilities that specialize in mental health or addictions. But his circumstances were drastically different than the times i dealt with in the past so who knows. The hospital said that he was discharged and according to my friend who works there they wouldn’t have said that if he was up on the psych floor, they would have just said they have no information at this time or that he was under restriction and couldn’t release any information. His family wants to keep his suicide attempt hushed. which i can understand why to an extent. where we work is very high school-ish in a way, constant drama and gossip. so in that aspect its good for people to just think of his absence as being from the accident.
At the same time, most of his close friends know that something is up…most of us know about his problems lately, and how depressed he’s been getting. although none of us realized that it was at that point yet. And it doesn’t help that before he overdosed he wrote a very depressing thing on facebook, which makes people assume that he attempted suicide.
I textd him monday night around dinner time to see how he was and if i could stop by with a card at some point. His sister ended up texting me back say that he couldn’t have any visitors for some time as he needed time to recover and she said some other things which i forget at the moment. Tuesday a good friend of his from work got the same thing from his mom when she called his phone. so i don’t think he has his phone where ever he is.

I’ve been where he was. I was extremely depressed/suicidal for years. I agree that he needs his friends and family. if it wasn’t for my friends i don’t think i ever would have made it. But im just hoping that his family isn’t smothering and protecting him too much, he’s been having problems with his parents for a while now whether or not they admit it. what led to this weekend wasn’t all on his parents, and im not blaming them…it was a combination of him being confused about himself, not liking his past actions, his family, work conflicts, and losing touch with some close friends this past year.

i just hope we are able to get in contact with him soon, a lot of us have cards, and little we love you gifts we got for him. he needs to know that we all are thinking of him and praying for him.
