Could someone please present a Biblically based case FOR homosexuality?

Do not twist scripture for your own agenda.
Settle down, jmcrae’s just presenting someone else’s case 🙂

The items on Dale_M’s list are common attempts at reconciliation between homosexual acts and scripture; I’ve seen most of them before. Most of those interpretations are highly debatable at best – except for the first. The story of Sodom and Gomorrah is a favorite of preachers who condemn homosexual acts (or, sadly, homosexuals themselves, all too often); but if you check out Dignity’s references, they’re completely right on that score. The two cities were not destroyed because there were just so many homosexuals; the hand of the Almighty fell on them because they were decadent, corrupt, and arrogant – attempted angel-rape was just the icing on the brimstone-flavored cake.

Other scriptures used are the story of Jonathan and David…they loved each other…their love was more satisfying than “that of a woman”…“Their souls were knit together…”

The story of Daniel and his eunuch.

The story of the Centurian who came to Jesus to heal his “servant” whom he loved…typically the servant in Roman times took on the role of “lover” when they were posted in an obscure land. Typically younger males to older Centurians.

“In Christ there is neither male nor female, Jew nor Greek, bond nor free…”

While the scriptures do not specifically condone loving, monogamous relationships between two people of the same sex there are no verses which condemn loving monogamous relationships between the same sex…for those verses which are used, see the Dignity website.

They justify it to themselves by redefining terms (St. Paul meant that we should not attempt to change our sexual programming; he was not aware that some people are born with same sex attraction, and so of course he thought homosexual acts were “perverse” but it is not “perverse” to follow your inborn instincts - it would be perverse for a heterosexual person to do that of course, since it goes against his instincts, but not for a homosexual person to do that, since it follows his instincts) and by saying that the Book of Leviticus doesn’t apply to Christians - it is part of the Old Covenant but not part of the New Covenant.

There ya have it.

Of course, I think their interpretation is incorrect.

Wrong, this would seem to falsify the word of God. homosexuality is an objective disorder, while the homosexual person is not condemned, the homosexual ACT itself is sinful. That’s why it’s an objective disorder, it’s disordered in terms of natural law. The very object in a homosexual mind pertaining to attractiveness is that of the same sex.

Homosexuals are called to live a life of celibacy. It is part of the new covenant, Jesus said very clearly about the Old Law, and how it is meant to be man and woman.

Do not twist scripture for your own agenda.
JFonseka, JMcRae is not the one twisting anything. She was simply explaining one argument that pro-sodomy “theologians” use to justify their disordered acts. I would like to call your attention to the very last line of JMcRae’s post.

As FeedMySheep requested several times, please let’s avoid debate. He is looking for the basis pro-homosexual use to moraly justify their sinful behavior.

We see other people trying to use all sorts labyrinthine logic to justify all sorts of other sins too. FeedMySheep is just trying to focus on this one.

Thank you. I’m trying to hear what the arguments are so I can go and research why the logic behind them is flawed and the result of poor scholarship. But I can’t do that if I don’t know what the arguments are.

Again, thank you to all those who directed me to the Dignity website. I’ll start there. If I can get past its urging Catholics to ignore Church teachings and do what one’s own conscience prompts.

May I ask how that would give you knowledge about St Paul?
What??

No, no - I am letting you know what my gay-friendly liberal Protestant church used to teach.

I’m Catholic, now. I don’t agree with that teaching.

The OP was asking for what the arguments are, in those kind of churches, and I was letting him know what it is.

I am looking for a Biblically-based defense of homosexuality. I’m not looking for a debate, I’m not interested in people’s POV on the matter. I am trying to figure out how what I assume are devout Christians (particularly from sola scriptura Protestant denominations) reconcile homosexual actions and homosexual marriage to Scripture.

I am not going to debate you on this matter, and I ask that no one else does, either. I am honestly trying to hear what “the other half” has to say.

Thank you in advance for trying very hard to keep the debate out of this thread.
The pro-homosexual churches redefine words in the bible to be comdemming “temple prostutes”.

The best books I have read on refuting gay mis-readings of the bible are,

Homosexuality and the Bible: Two Views (Paperback)
by Robert A. J. Gagnon (Author), Dan O. Via (Author)

The Bible and Homosexual Practice: Texts and Hermeneutics (Paperback) by **Robert A. J. Gagnon **(Author)

Straight & Narrow?: Compassion & Clarity in the Homosexuality Debate (Paperback) by Thomas E. Schmidt (Author)

Basically, Gay churches redefine, misread, and ignore what they don’t like in scripture.

Well since Homosexuallity is WRONG, Sinful and condemned by God, There isn’t a logical biblical defence for it. Whether they be catholic priest or otherwise

God’s Word in the Bible is unchanging Eternal Truth, an as such, does not have another half, or another point of view. Good thing you do not want to debate, because there is none. Homosexuality is a sin. As mankind, we are all sinners – but please do not look in Holy Scripture for a defense, there is none. **
