Could the MP be bad?

I was going to observe the three hour fast as a matter of personal piety because even at my local indult parish the fast is only an hour. 1964? Hmmm…I associate the hour with the “hybrid” Masses after Vatican II. Interesting.
Your desire to observe the three hour fast is laudable and in my opinion, proper. Canon law calls for a Eucharistic fast of “at least” one hour. My indult parish requests those attending the Traditional Latin Mass to observe a fast of a minimum of 3 hours and calls fasting from midnight, for those who wish to, commendable.

Christus Dominus-1953- (communion fast to 3 hours for food for evening Masses when permitted)

Sacram Communionem-1957- extending this privilege.

The address of Paul VI at the closing of Session III of the Council in 1964 reducing the fast to an hour doesn’t seem to be online.

Be careful what you wish for, because you might just get it. I’m wondering if the MP could be bad for the cause of Catholic tradition. Look at the “modernists in lace” situation amongst Anglo-Catholics in the Episcopal church. I don’t know that much about the Anglo-Catholic movement, but it’s my understanding that you have certain parishes that are fully committed to high-church liturgical grandeur whilst adopting some progressive ideas.
In Britian there is a highly-educated, public school Anglican culture, which tends to be extremely liberal, especially over homosexuality.
It could easily infect the Catholic church. The act of attending a Tridentine Mass does not turn one into a saint, and all strands of faith have some problems. However the big difference is that TLMers in the Catholic tradition also tend to be anti-contraceptive. That provides a certain amount of protection from other sexual vices.

Then of course not all “progressive” ideas are wrong. A very radical stance against racism can be entirely orthodox, for instance.
