I am against the ordination of women… I believe it is dogma that only men could be ordained. But this (very liberal…) article is saying that about 10% of priests in certain countries support ordination of women  my question is, - do you think this could actually happen? or would the Vatican always say no? Is the Vatican very clear on this still? Personally, I hope the Vatican would stay with the original teaching of a male priesthood, and as it has been said before, we don’t have the authority to change such things. Would this be protected by infallibility?

thanks!

Thanks 🙂 I found this letter by Pope John Paul II which seems to be ex cathedra (in the end)… so as long as the Pope is there, I believe infallibility would protect this change from occuring. 🙂

"Although the teaching that priestly ordination is to be reserved to men alone has been preserved by the constant and universal Tradition of the Church and firmly taught by the Magisterium in its more recent documents, at the present time in some places it is nonetheless considered still open to debate, or the Church’s judgment that women are not to be admitted to ordination is considered to have a merely disciplinary force.

Wherefore, in order that all doubt may be removed regarding a matter of great importance, a matter which pertains to the Church’s divine constitution itself, in virtue of my ministry of confirming the brethren (cf. Lk 22:32) I declare that the Church has no authority whatsoever to confer priestly ordination on women and that this judgment is to be definitively held by all the Church’s faithful.

Invoking an abundance of divine assistance upon you, venerable brothers, and upon all the faithful, I impart my apostolic blessing."

It cannot happen because it is an infallible teaching.
